Job Summary
The IT Infrastructure Services department is inviting applications for the position of Systems Administrator Senior with a strong working knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. This position reports to the Director of IT Systems and Cloud Operations as an integral member of the IT Systems and Cloud Operations team. The successful candidate will have the training and skills necessary to install, configure, and maintain both physical and virtual servers that support Lamar University's mission. The Systems Administrator Senior will apply technical knowledge in implementing policies for system security, ensuring high availability, and building technological sustainability.
This position will provide system services in support of technical and functional teams as requested and will apply knowledge and experience of current trends and technologies to improve and automate business processes.
This individual is accountable for the following types of systems: Linux servers, VMware hypervisor, SAN / NAS storage systems, and monitoring and management systems that support the University infrastructure.

Essential Job Functions
  • Install, configure, and administer physical and virtual Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers, including but not limited to: user accounts, file/directory permissions, storage management, patch management, security management, NTFS/Share management and OS upgrades.
  • Monitor all Linux enterprise servers and proactively intervene to solve problems.
  • Create and maintain documentation of system processes and procedures.
  • Provide OS and application troubleshooting support as needed.
  • Coordinate with vendors and technical support as needed.
  • Generate, develop, and distribute statistical reports for management

Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a closely related field, or an associate degree with 5 years of verifiable experience in a related field.
    • A minimum of 2 or more years of verifiable experience in a related field, with a portion of this experience reflecting increasing responsibility and scope.

Desired Qualifications:
    • At least two (2) years of experience working in a data center environment.
    • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification.

Supplemental Information
Key Competencies:
    • Advanced knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux server administration, CLI, Troubleshooting, and day-to-day administration.
    • Advanced knowledge of Linux File Structures.
    • Advanced knowledge of Linux security is best practice.
    • Advanced knowledge of Linux storage configuration.
    • Advanced knowledge of Linux package installation and management.

Physical Requirements: May be required to lift objects weighing 15 pounds or more.
Job Conditions: Mainly Monday through Friday, 8 am - 5 pm, but some after-hours and weekend work required as needed.
