Job Title: Entry-Level Fiber Optic Splicer (Trainee)Job SummaryThe Entry-Level Fiber Optic Splicer (Trainee) will assist in the installation, preparation, and splicing of fiber optic cables in both aerial and underground environments. This role is designed for individuals beginning their career in fiber optics and provides hands-on training in splicing techniques, including small and large fiber counts and mid-sheath access.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with the preparation and splicing of fiber optic cables, including both low-count and high-count fiber cablesย
- Learn and perform mid-sheath cable access for maintenance and network expansionย
- Support senior splicers in fusion splicing, testing, and troubleshooting fiber networksย
- Prepare cables by stripping, cleaning, and organizing fibers for splicingย
- Help install and secure splice enclosures, closures, and cabinetsย
- Perform basic fiber testing using OTDR and power meters under supervisionย
- Maintain accurate records of splicing activities and test resultsย
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper handling of tools and materialsย
- Keep work areas clean and organizedย
Training & Development Focus- Fusion splicing techniques for single fiber and ribbon fiberย
- Handling large fiber counts (144, 288, 864+)ย
- Mid-sheath entry and fiber managementย
- Reading splice diagrams and network printsย
- Fiber testing and documentation standardsย
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED requiredย
- Interest in telecommunications or fiber optics industryย
- Willingness to learn technical skills and work outdoorsย
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a teamย
- Basic mechanical aptitude and attention to detailย
Preferred (Not Required)- Prior experience in construction, utilities, or telecomย
- Familiarity with hand tools or basic electrical/mechanical workย
Physical Requirements- Ability to lift 50 lbsย
- Comfortable working in various weather conditionsย
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, or in bucket trucks (with training)ย
- Manual dexterity for handling small fibers and toolsย
Work Environment- Outdoor field work (aerial, underground, and indoor telecom spaces)ย
- Travel to job sites may be requiredย
- May include overtime, weekends, or emergency restoration workย
