Compensationย 

The salary for this role isย $95K-$145K.ย This is the range that we in good faithย anticipateย relying on when setting wages for this position. We mayย ultimately payย more or less than the postedย rangeย and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in New York.ย ย This salary range may also beย modifiedย in the future.ย ย 

About the Role:ย 

The Transmission System Operatorย is responsible forย the safe and reliable operation of LS Powerย Gridย New Yorkโ€™s high-voltage transmission system from the centralized operations center in Halfmoon, NY. In this role, you willย monitorย and control transmission assets in real time to support the reliable delivery of electricity across the region, using Energy Management System (EMS) tools and real-time data to assess system conditions and respond to potential issues.ย 

This roleย operatesย in a 24/7 control room environment on a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. All work is performedย in accordance withย applicable reliability and regulatory standards, including NERC, NYISO, NPCC, and FERC, while working as part of a collaborative control room team focused onย maintainingย grid reliability.ย 


Whatย you willย do:ย ย 

  • Monitor, analyze, and respond toย real-timeย electric system conditions using the EMS.ย ย 
  • Operate and control electric transmission facilities in compliance with FERC, NERC, NYISO, and LSPG procedures, rules, and standards.ย ย 
  • Coordinate with field personnel and neighboring utilities to safely remove and return transmission equipment to service during normal and abnormal conditions.ย ย 
  • Monitor and control voltage levels and power flows toย maintainย system reliability; analyze system data and implement corrective actions asย required.ย ย 
  • Performย high-voltageย switching operations during normal and emergency conditions while ensuring strict adherence to safety procedures.ย ย 
  • Communicate planned and unplanned transmission outagesย in accordance withย regulatory and safety requirements.ย ย 
  • Assistย with development and maintenance ofย LSPGย transmission operations and maintenance procedures, guides, and manuals.ย 
  • Support EMS system integrity, including assisting withย one lineย diagram and system updates.ย ย 
  • Maintainย accurateย records andย comply withย all applicable NERC, NYISO, and LSPG documentation and retention requirements.ย ย 
  • Provideย shift coverage, as needed,ย in accordance withย established scheduling and staffing requirements.ย 
  • Participate in required training toย maintainย NERC certification.ย ย 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.ย

Ideally, you haveย 

  • Anย Associate (AAS) degreeย inย Electrical Technology orย anย equivalentย science or technologyย fieldย isย desired; militaryย experienceย mayย be considered inย placeย ofย a formal degree.ย 
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the electrical power industry or military power field.ย 
  • Prior experienceย operatingย within the NYISO footprint (preferred).ย 
  • The ability to obtain a valid NERC Reliability Coordinator certification within six (6) months of hire.ย 
  • Formal education or technical training related to power plant operations, electrical work, instrumentation & controls, or a similar discipline.ย 
  • Strongย proficiencyย in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook.ย 
  • A valid driverโ€™s license with a satisfactory driving record.ย 
  • The ability to work rotating 12hour shifts in a 24/7 transmission operations environment.ย
