We are currently looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer, Precision Molds to advance our precision lens molding capabilities. This is an onsite position in our Orlando, FL office. We offer a 9/80 work schedule and foster a professional, high-energy culture where employees are empowered to succeed.ย This position will workย closely with our Chief Mold Technologist. You will have the opportunity to apply your engineeringย expertiseย to master specialized mold design principles while leading innovation in larger-diameter lens production. Thisย individual will need toย assimilateย complex technical knowledge and drive meaningful expansion ofย LightPathโsย manufacturing capabilities.ย
Responsibilities:
- Partnerย with the Chief Mold Technologist toย masterย advanced mold design principlesย specific toย precision optical manufacturingย ย
- Master and applyย LightPath'sย comprehensive mold designย methodology, including our detailed design guide that correlates lens curvature, glass types, and manufacturing parametersย ย
- Lead the design and development of complex molds for precision glass lens manufacturingย ย
- Spearhead development initiatives to enable molding of larger-diameter lenses, including feasibility analysis, prototyping, validation, and production implementationย ย
- Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation for mold fabricationย ย
- Analyze mold performance data and drive design improvements toย optimizeย quality, efficiency, and capabilityย ย
- Provide technical leadership in troubleshooting complex molding issues and developing solutionsย ย
- Mentorย non-mold-specialistย engineers and contribute to building organizational knowledge in mold designย ย
- Support new product introduction with innovative mold designs that meet demandingย optical specifications
Knowledge, ability and skills:
- Advancedย proficiencyย with CAD software (SolidWorks,ย Creo, or similar)ย ย
- Deep understanding of materials science, thermal management, and manufacturing processesย
- Expert knowledge of tolerance analysis and GD&Tย ย
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detailย ย
Experience/Qualification:
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineeringย or related fieldย ย
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical design, withย demonstratedย expertiseย in precision manufacturing, tooling, or mold designย ย
- Provenย track recordย of successfully leading technical development projectsย ย
- Excellent communication and collaboration skillsย
Preferredย
- Experience inย precisionย mold design, tool and die, or precision optics manufacturingย
- Knowledge of glass properties and optical manufacturing processesย
- Proficiencyย with finite element analysis (FEA) or thermal simulation toolsย
- Experienceย scalingย manufacturing processes or capabilitiesย
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineeringย
