Position: Library Associate III - Youth Services
Reports to: Youth Services Manager
Job Purpose: As a part of the Youth Services Department, there will be opportunities to work with teens as well as children through programming and reader's advisory. Staff will gradually receive responsibilities for specific projects in the department. Staff in this position will work in a high energy environment that encourages creativity, flexibility, and collaboration.
Current schedule: 1-2 Sundays a month 12:45-5:15, Mondays 8:45-12:45, Tuesday 8:45-12:45, Wednesdays 5:15-9:15, Thursdays 8:45-12:45, One Saturday a month 8:45-5:15

Responsibility

• Perform circulation functions: answer questions, assist with self-checkout
• Provide Quick and Research Reference
• Assist patrons with the Library catalog, public computers, Internet, databases and Google applications
• Develop, organize, and present outreach programs in the community. Storytime skills are a plus for this responsibility.
• Develop, organize, and present programs in the library for a variety of age groups. Experience with teenagers is a plus for this position.
• Work with the Youth Services Manager to run the monthly Teen Advisory Board.
• Perform reader's advisory, learn popular titles, authors and award winners. Assist in compiling book lists and bibliographies
• Help maintain the overall neatness of the Library (i.e. toys, trash on tables, stray books)
• Marketing! At small libraries we create our own buzz! Do you know Canva or want to learn?
• Assists with shelving of books
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Regular attendance as scheduled and performing tasks as assigned are essential job functions.

Qualifications:

1. Must be flexible and able to work 18-30 hours a week including nights and weekends
2. Experience working in an environment with children and teens.
3. Experience working with youth
4. Interest in Children's and Teen literature
5. Commitment to a high level of public service. Must be willing to work cooperatively with and around people of all ages.
6. Good judgment with analytical and problem-solving skills.
7. Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment.
8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
9. Effective oral and written communication skills.
10. Ability to stand for long periods of time; ability to bend and stoop frequently to reach low shelves, reach high shelves, lift heavy books, and push a full book cart.
11. Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.
12. Be willing to acquire knowledge of new technology available in the library and have the ability to translate that knowledge to patrons and fellow staff members.
13. Ability to work in a public service area that is busy, sometimes noisy and with frequent interruptions.
14. Storytelling and/or public speaking experience connected to Youth a plus.
15. Knowledge of or willingness to learn Canva is a plus.
