Job description

Title: Videography & Photography Specialist
Reports to: Director of Marketing & Communications
Schedule: 10-Month position with limited/flexible summer responsibilities
FLSA/Classification: Non-exempt/staff, benefits-eligible
About Kent School
Kent School is a coeducational, independent boarding school enrolling 520 students in grades 9-12. Our Mission is to educate students intellectually, socially, ethically, and spiritually so that they will be prepared to contribute to the common good in the world beyond Kent School.
Position Summary
Kent School's Marketing & Communications Office seeks a dynamic and creative visual storyteller for the role of Videography & Photography Specialist. This position will produce compelling photography and videography that capture the vibrant campus community and bring the Kent School brand and Mission to life. Content created will be used across platforms, including social media, the website, admissions materials, and for fundraising and alumni engagement purposes.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Videography & Photography Specialist works collaboratively across departments to plan, capture, and produce visual assets that tell powerful stories about the Kent School community. The ideal candidate is creative, versatile, and highly organized, with a strong videography/photography background in brand-focused storytelling and various editorial styles. They should be comfortable managing a high-volume content pipeline, coordinating a busy capture schedule, and maintaining well-organized digital assets for long-term use and sharing.
This is a 10-month position with a flexible schedule, requiring 40 hours per week during the academic year and two months off during the summer, with the exception of Reunion Weekend in June. The role will involve a significant number of evenings and weekends during the school year to capture events and activities, so candidates should be prepared for this schedule. While there is flexibility in hours, the specific schedule will be determined by the Director of Marketing & Communications based on the needs of the School.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and portfolio of videography/photography work. Kent School offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement benefits, access to the School dining hall, and the School health center.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as Kent School's official Videographer and photographer, capturing moments of academic, athletic, and student life, as well as campus events and special occasions.
  • Plan and produce a variety of visual content: event photography, promotional videos, interviews, explainer videos, social media photo albums and reels, and team-specific content to support the School's various marketing and communications needs and strengthen Kent School's Mission- and values- driven narratives.
  • Strategize and execute an annual video and photo calendar to ensure key milestones, events, and programs are captured and showcased. (Note: Many photography needs will be spontaneous in nature and/or occur during evenings, weekends, or outside normal "office" hours.)
  • Manage post-production processes, including photo editing, video editing, sound design, color correction, and integrating graphics, effects, and music.
  • Create and maintain a highly organized visual content library, including stock b-roll footage, interview clips, tagged photos, and completed projects, using the School's digital asset management system. Ensure assets are properly archived, searchable, and accessible for future marketing, admissions, advancement, and institutional needs. Experience with Pixevity is a plus.
  • Operate and oversee professional equipment, including cameras, drones, gimbals, lighting, and microphones, while ensuring alignment with the School's brand standards.
  • Collaborate with various School Departments, especially Admissions, Alumni & Development, and Athletics, to engage their respective audiences and support their annual goals through targeted visual storytelling.
  • Attend and document events, including on evenings and weekends, to capture spontaneous and planned photography/videography needs.
  • Schedule logistics, secure resources, and coordinate with outside vendors for photo and video-related projects.
  • Archive, organize, tag, and maintain digital photographic and video assets according to established workflows and naming conventions to ensure long-term accessibility and efficient retrieval.
  • Mentor students in photo-and-video-related school jobs, helping them conceptualize, capture, and produce engaging video and photo content that highlights school events, student activities, and the overall school experience, ensuring content aligns with the school's brand and messaging.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing & Communications to evaluate and recommend the most suitable video equipment for the school's needs, aligning with budget and project goals.
  • Ensure all visual content aligns with brand guidelines and technical specifications.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Marketing & Communications or Head of School.

Job and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Photography, Videography, Visual Arts, Media Production, Communications, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of professional videography and video production experience, with at least 3-5 years of professional photography experience, preferably in education, marketing, media, or brand storytelling environments. Candidates should demonstrate advanced video storytelling, production, and editing skills, with photography serving as a complementary strength.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing photography and video work, including experience with event coverage, promotional content, and brand storytelling.
  • Proficiency with DSLR and mirrorless cameras, lighting equipment, gimbals, drones, microphones, and other production tools.
  • Experience operating drones for aerial photography/videography (FAA Part 107 certification preferred).
  • Expertise in post-production software, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, After Effects).
  • Familiarity with digital asset management systems and content organization workflows.
  • Understanding of sound design, color correction, and motion graphics integration.
  • Excellent visual storytelling abilities with a keen eye for composition, lighting, and detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a friendly disposition, an approachable attitude, and an eagerness to build relationships with diverse audiences, particularly students.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to balance multiple projects on tight deadlines, manage a heavy capture schedule, and maintain a highly organized archive of photographic and video assets.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively across departments.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and other non-traditional hours to cover events and campus life.
  • Strong understanding of branding, marketing principles, and audience engagement strategies.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed.
  • Passion for working in a school environment and engaging with students, faculty, and staff.

Physical Requirements
The physical demands listed below are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
