Senior Awards and Rankings Manager
The Senior Awards and Rankings Manager leads the Firm's global submissions strategy and execution. This role is responsible for maximizing the Firm's visibility and reputation across key legal directories (including Chambers and Legal 500), industry rankings, surveys, league tables and awards programs.
While working under the general direction of the Director of Communications and Public Relations, the Senior Manager partners with attorneys, Marketing and Business Development, and PR teams to develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for legal directory submissions, awards, and rankings aligned with Firm priorities. The Senior Manager also manages external agencies and business partners in the development of high-quality submissions on behalf of the Firm, the attorneys and practice groups.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication, project management, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with sound judgment, discretion, and a proactive, results-driven approach. Experience with legal directories, awards, and external agency management is required. This role has one direct report.
The Senior Awards and Rankings Manager can sit in our Chicago, New York, Washington D.C., or Los Angeles office. Katten offers a hybrid work model, allowing the flexibility to work both on-site and remotely on a regular basis (KattenFlex).

- Maintain a forward-looking calendar of submissions, deadlines, and strategic priorities.
Submissions Management
- Lead end-to-end development of submissions, including information gathering, drafting, editing, and final production.
- Translate complex legal work into clear, compelling narratives that highlight impact, innovation, and client value.
- Ensure consistency, accuracy, and quality across all submissions.
- Partner with attorneys, practice leaders, and marketing and business development colleagues to gather matter details, client references, and supporting materials.
- Provide guidance and best practices to attorneys on submissions strategy and positioning.
- Update league tables, surveys, and directory profiles as new Firm developments arise, including attorney hires, press releases, practice updates, and other notable news.
Collaboration
- Partner with the PR and Communications team to develop internal and external communications announcing rankings and awards, reinforcing the Firm's brand visibility.
- Coordinate across departments to ensure alignment with broader marketing and business development efforts.
Performance Tracking and Insights
- Track and analyze results across rankings and awards to measure performance and identify trends.
- Provide regular reporting and insights to Firm leadership and stakeholders.
- Use data to refine strategy and improve future submissions.
Process Improvements and Innovation
- Develop and implement processes, tools, and templates to streamline submissions and improve efficiency.
- Stay current on changes in ranking methodologies and industry trends.
- Continuously enhance the quality and impact of submissions through innovation and best practices.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position has one direct report.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications or other related field with ten (10) years of relevant experience in business development or marketing in a law firm, professional services firm or other similar organization. Prior experience working at a large law firm and strong knowledge of legal directories is required.
- Exceptional organizational, research, and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including advanced copywriting and copyediting proficiency. Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism when working with attorneys, clients, media, publishers, and external vendors.
- Highly detail-oriented, with proven ability to gather, organize, and synthesize information from a variety of sources.
- Ability to exercises sound judgment, strong problem-solving abilities, and critical thinking, while maintaining the highest level of discretion with confidential and sensitive information.
- Dependable and collaborative team player who works effectively with others while also demonstrating initiative, independent decision-making, and a proactive, results-driven mindset.

- Experience managing external agencies is preferred but not required.
- Experience working with legal directories (e.g., Chambers, Legal 500, etc.) is required.
