Description

KMC Controls is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support and continuously improve the manufacturing systems and processes used to produce our building automation and HVAC control products. This position works closely with Operations, Product Engineering, Quality, Planning, Maintenance, Tool Room personnel, suppliers, and production employees to improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, manufacturability, and process reliability.

The Manufacturing Engineer provides hands‑on technical support for manufacturing processes from new product introduction through sustaining production. Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop, evaluate, document, and improve manufacturing methods, assembly processes, test methods, tooling, fixtures, equipment, and work‑cell layouts.
  • Troubleshoot product and process issues involving materials, equipment, tooling, quality, capacity, workflow, or operator methods and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Apply Lean manufacturing, data analysis, and continuous‑improvement methods to reduce waste, variation, defects, bottlenecks, cycle time, and manufacturing cost.
  • Create and maintain ERP manufacturing data and production documentation, including bills of materials, routings, labor standards, work instructions, test procedures, and related records.
  • Coordinate and implement Engineering Change Orders and ensure affected materials, tooling, documentation, training, and production processes are updated.
  • Review drawings, specifications, tolerances, and product designs for manufacturability, testability, quality, completeness, and cost.
  • Plan production sequences, workforce utilization, material flow, capacity, ergonomics, equipment placement, and workspace layouts.
  • Design manufacturing fixtures and tooling and work with internal and external resources to fabricate, validate, and maintain them.
  • Evaluate, specify, source, install, qualify, and troubleshoot manufacturing equipment, materials, parts, and services.
  • Conduct process‑capability, manufacturing, and product testing and evaluate results using appropriate statistical methods.
  • Support electronic assembly operations, manufacturing tests, failure analysis, corrective actions, and product‑quality activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to production personnel on processes, equipment, work instructions, quality requirements, and safe work practices.
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, plus five or more years of relevant manufacturing engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with electronic circuit‑board assembly processes.
  • Experience with plastic injection molding and rubber molding.Experience supporting manufacturing operations within an ERP environment.
  • Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing, structured problem solving, root‑cause analysis, corrective action, process capability, and basic statistical methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensional prints, specifications, tolerances, technical instructions, basic electronic schematics, and component symbols.
  • Ability to safely and accurately use calipers, micrometers, voltmeters, and related measurement or test equipment.
  • Knowledge of electronic assembly, manufacturing tooling and fixtures, production equipment, quality‑control standards, and pneumatic logic.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, spreadsheets, word processing, presentations, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong problem‑solving, communication, collaboration, planning, continuous‑improvement, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
  • Experience with HVAC controls, sensors, or related building‑automation products is preferred.
