Job description

Job Description:

Reporting to the Chair for Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, this role will provide instruction specifically in OMM/NMM and integrate Osteopathy into the entire curriculum. The ability to teach in one or more biomedical/preclinical courses or clinical disciplines would be beneficial.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching (75%)

  • Works with Department Chair to integrate and implement KansasCOM courses into a four-year, seamless curriculum using onsite, distance-learning, and other standard and emerging pedagogies
  • Review relevant KansasCOM curriculum in its entirety and recommend pertinent suggestions to the Course Directors, Department Chair, and Associate Dean
  • Assists in monitoring the progress of all students to ensure successful progress toward graduation and recommend disciplinary action when necessary
  • Teaches in assigned courses
  • Serves as a student advisor as assigned
  • Assist in student re-testing and remediation as necessary

Administration (5%)

  • Assist with interviewing and hiring of department faculty as requested
  • Participate in the peer evaluation of department faculty
  • Assist in interviewing prospective students for KansasCOM

Service (10%)

  • Participate in student interviewing, mentorship, and career counseling
  • Foster a positive culture amongst the students, faculty, and KHSC-KansasCOM staff.
  • Serve on selected committees at the discretion of the Dean
  • Assist the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in accreditation functions to include document creation, data collection, data entry, education of faculty on accreditation, and other accreditation-related functions at the discretion of the Dean
  • To participate in community relations efforts to extend and enhance the visibility and reputation of the Department, KansasCOM, and KHSC
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned

Research and Scholarly Activity (10%)

  • Promote student research and scholarly activity
  • Make contributions to the advancement of knowledge and the development of osteopathic medicine through scientific research

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

N/A

QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Board Eligible/Certified DO or MD with appropriate training and skills
  • Clinical experience practicing OMT within their specialty
  • Graduate of an accredited College of Osteopathic Medicine or LCME
  • Curricular and teaching experience, in formal and informal instruction, and learner supervision and evaluation
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Be detailed oriented and have excellent interpersonal skills
  • Have expertise with Microsoft Office Suite products and the desire and ability to learn course management software/distance learning technologies
  • Be able to complete multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and exercise good judgment
  • Please provide examples of accomplishments, skills, and publications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board Certification/Board Eligibility through the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (AOBNMM) or dual certification in a primary specialty and NMM/OMM is desired
  • Board Certified ONMM, NMM-OMM or C-SPOM
  • Experience as an instructor or course director of an OMM/OPP department or course
  • Experience in teaching and/or research in a COCA-accredited osteopathic medical school or college
  • Experience in more than one clinical and/or preclinical discipline
  • Experience in course development and curriculum integration
