Summary
About the Position: The incumbent will serve as a Joint Operations Plans Specialist (Maritime) at USSOUTHCOM Operations Directorate Future Operations Division in Miami, FL.

Help
  • Responsible for planning the coordination of maritime missions to U.S. Southern Command's (USSOUTHCOM) Area of Responsibility (AOR).
  • Serve as a point of contact for deliberate/crisis action planning.
  • Develop maritime correspondence into USSOUTHCOM Concept Plans, Operational Plans, Campaign Plans, and Operations Orders.
  • Coordinate Request for Forces (RFF) in conjunction with Joint Operational Planning and Execution Systems (JOPES).

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access.
  • Required to deploy on short notice as directed by the Secretary of Defense in response to a Presidential Disaster Declaration (PDD) involving acts of terrorism, natural disasters, homeland defense and civil support contingency operations.
  • In performing above duties, overtime and shift work may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • May be required to have a mobile phone/PDA and maintain a working telephone at all times.
  • This position has a Drug Testing requirement.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1). Coordinate the development and implementation of maritime plans and policy for the organization; 2). Ensure resources are allocated through planning and evaluation of organizational status to enhance readiness for future missions; and 3). Interpret guidance to collaborate with numerous agencies and sources to assess the impact of the plans and policies on the maritime mission. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12 or above).

  • Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
