Job description

What You'll Do:

Position Summary

JetZero is seeking an experienced Flight Control Laws Validation & Verification (V&V) Engineer to support the development, verification, and validation of advanced flight control laws for the BWB Demonstrator. This role emphasizes control law performance, robustness, and handling qualities verification, with opportunities to contribute directly to control law design, tuning, and refinement.

The ideal candidate combines strong fundamentals in aircraft dynamics and control systems with hands-on experience validating control laws across simulation, piloted environments, and flight test, particularly for unconventional or highly integrated aircraft configurations.

What You'll Do:
  • Plan and execute validation and verification activities for flight control laws, including degraded modes.
  • Develop and maintain control law-specific V&V plans, procedures, and success criteria aligned with program and flight test objectives.
  • Perform requirements-based verification of control law performance, stability, handling qualities, and robustness.
  • Execute verification using model-in-the-loop (MIL), software-in-the-loop (SIL), hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), and piloted simulation environments.
  • Conduct time-domain and frequency-domain analyses, gain/phase margin assessments, and robustness evaluations.
  • Support Monte Carlo and batch testing to assess control law sensitivity to uncertainties, failures, and environmental variations.
  • Collaborate with control law designers to support design trades, tuning, and refinement, particularly during integration and test phases.
  • Evaluate handling qualities and pilot-vehicle interaction, including participation in piloted simulations and simulator debriefs.
  • Support failure cases, reversion logic, and envelope protection verification in coordination with systems and safety teams.
  • Investigate anomalies identified during simulation, integration, or flight test; support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, including verification reports, analysis summaries, and flight test readiness data.
  • Support flight test planning and execution, including pre-flight analysis and post-flight data review related to control law performance.
What You Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5-10 years of experience in flight control laws development, validation, or verification.
  • Strong background in aircraft dynamics, control theory, and stability & control.
  • Hands-on experience with control law V&V in simulation and/or flight test environments.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink and model-based development workflows.
  • Experience performing robustness, handling qualities, and performance assessments.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced development environment.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and technical documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with unconventional or novel aircraft configurations (e.g., BWB, tailless, highly integrated flight controls).
  • Familiarity with handling qualities standards and guidance (e.g., MIL-STD-1797 or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting piloted simulation labs or flight test campaigns.
  • Exposure to certification-related control law verification and compliance documentation.
  • Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related field.

Why Join JetZero

  • Work on cutting-edge control laws for a clean-sheet, first-of-its-kind aircraft.
  • Influence both control law design and verification on a rapid demonstrator program.
  • Be part of a team redefining how advanced flight controls are developed and validated.
