Job description

General Manager — McDonald’s

Lead the Restaurant. Build the Team. Drive the Results.

A McDonald’s General Manager owns the full performance of the restaurant — people, operations, guest experience, sales, profitability, staffing, training, and culture.

This is a leadership role for someone who understands that great restaurants are built through strong routines, clear expectations, high standards, and consistent follow-up. The right candidate is energized by leading people, solving problems, developing managers, and running a restaurant that delivers results every day.

What You’ll Own

As the General Manager, you are responsible for leading the restaurant as a complete business. That includes:

  • Driving performance in sales, profitability, food cost, labor, service, cleanliness, and guest satisfaction
  • Building and developing a strong leadership team of Department Managers, Shift Managers, Crew Trainers, and future leaders
  • Hiring, staffing, training, coaching, and retaining a team that can meet McDonald’s standards
  • Leading daily operations with a focus on Quality, Service, Cleanliness, and Value
  • Managing controllable costs including food, labor, waste, cash, and inventory
  • Ensuring every shift is prepared, positioned, and led with clear expectations
  • Holding managers and crew accountable while creating a respectful, team-driven culture
  • Reviewing results, identifying opportunities, and building action plans that improve the restaurant

What Success Looks Like

A successful General Manager is visible, organized, and involved. You know your numbers, but you also know your people.

You lead from the floor, coach in real time, inspect standards, and follow up consistently. You notice when service slows down, food quality slips, staffing is off, or a manager needs support — and you take action before small issues become bigger problems.

You do not just run shifts. You build systems, develop leaders, and create a restaurant that runs well whether you are there or not.

This Role Is a Strong Fit If You:

  • Have experience leading a high-volume QSR, restaurant, retail, hospitality, or similar operation
  • Can lead and develop a team of 50+ employees through managers and shift leaders
  • Understand food cost, labor, scheduling, inventory, cash, training, and performance metrics
  • Can read reports and turn numbers into action
  • Communicate clearly, directly, and professionally
  • Stay calm and solution-focused during rushes, call-ins, guest concerns, and operational pressure
  • Take pride in building people, not just managing tasks
  • Are willing to be held accountable for restaurant results

This Role Is Probably Not for You If:

  • You prefer to manage from the office instead of leading from the floor
  • You avoid difficult conversations
  • You are not comfortable being measured by results
  • You need constant direction to know what to focus on
  • You see staffing, training, food cost, or service times as someone else’s responsibility
  • You want the title without the ownership that comes with it

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Previous General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Department Manager, or senior QSR leadership experience preferred
  • McDonald’s experience is a plus, but not required for the right operator
  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication, and follow-up skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on restaurant needs
  • Commitment to food safety, cleanliness, service, and operational excellence

Benefits

We offer competitive pay and benefits designed to support your growth, performance, and future, including:

  • Paid Vacation
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Monthly Performance Bonus Program
  • Service Recognition Awards
  • Archways to Opportunity Education Benefits, including:
  • High School Diploma Programs
  • College Tuition Assistance, up to $3,500 annually
  • English as a Second Language courses
  • Additional career and education resources

The Bottom Line

A great McDonald’s General Manager builds leaders, protects standards, drives results, and creates a restaurant where guests want to return and employees want to grow.

If you are a serious restaurant leader who takes ownership, develops people, and knows how to turn daily execution into long-term success, we would like to meet you.
