Job Summary: 

The Director of Teaching and Learning is responsible for leading ISEA’s Professional Development Academy and supporting programs that positively impact public education and the teaching profession. This position serves as a resource and subject-matter expert in the profession of teaching and learning, professional development, and instructional issues. They will work collaboratively with members, partner organizations, and the Iowa Department of Education on supporting educators and students. This position is based out of ISEA headquarters in Des Moines. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead and oversee ISEA’s Professional Development Academy by monitoring and creating courses, working with instructors and graduate institutions, and ensuring ISEA maintains its status as a provider of Iowa license renewal credit.
• Serve as staff liaison to relevant ISEA committees tasked with advancing the profession of teaching.
• Assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing ISEA programs and professional development conferences.
• Serve as a liaison with the Iowa Department of Education, Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, community colleges, and AEAs for the purpose of providing and improving professional development opportunities for all educators.
• Collaborate with ISEA and NEA staff to monitor and report regularly on relevant education legislation at the state and federal levels.
• Provide expertise, information, and resources to ISEA staff and members regarding instructional issues and other matters related to teaching and learning.
• Keep up on current educational trends and research-based practices. 
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of ISEA’s mission and organizational priorities.

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in education or a related field.
• Knowledge and understanding of critical issues affecting public education and the education profession.
• Demonstrated working collaboratively with outside organizations, agencies, and partners.
• Ability to translate complex information into clear, concise, and engaging language.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work in a team environment along with establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
• Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while meeting deadlines.
• Experience leading, implementing, and presenting professional learning opportunities.
