Your Job
Koch is seeking an experienced patent agent with a business-oriented approach to patent portfolio development to join our integrated intellectual property team supporting the diverse companies of Koch around the globe, including Guardian and Invista. The role can be located in Wichita, KS; Atlanta, GA; or Lisle, IL.
Our Team
The intellectual property team of Koch's Legal and Compliance Capability supports the Koch companies with innovative IP services to produce advantaged business outcomes consistent with our principle-based approach and economic risk philosophy. We demonstrate an interest in understanding each of the Koch businesses and the markets in which they operate, developing strong relationships at all levels of the organization to deliver sophisticated, risk-adjusted, practical IP support in line with commercial objectives. We continuously experiment with innovative process improvements, data-driven insights, and artificial intelligence adoption to transform our team into the IP team of the future.

What You Will Do
  • Partner with stakeholders to understand innovations and business objectives
  • Develop, shape, and manage global patent portfolios, including overseeing outside counsel in the preparation of patent applications and efficiently managing a global patent docket
  • Assist with competitive patent searches and risks assessments
  • Support in-house counsel with patent enforcement, dispute resolution, and M&A due diligence
  • Advance the IP team's transformation through the execution of initiatives that optimize processes and advance the adoption of AI

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Registration to practice before the USPTO
  • Undergraduate degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science/engineering, metallurgical science/engineering, polymer science/engineering, or related field
  • At least three years of patent drafting and prosecution experience in a law firm or corporate environment
  • Proficiency with IP management systems and searching tools, such as Anaqua and Acclaim IP

What Will Put You Ahead
  • Previous experience as an in-house patent practitioner
  • Demonstrated experience developing and using AI tools for improving patent prosecution

For this role, we anticipate paying $130,000 - $170,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
