Job description

Why This Role Exists

Financial crimes risk is constantly evolving, and Metro needs thoughtful, detail-driven experts who can see beyond alerts and reports to understand patterns, risk, member impact, and regulatory expectations.

The Senior BSA Analyst plays a critical role in protecting Metro Credit Union, its members, and its reputation by identifying suspicious activity, strengthening BSA/AML controls, and helping the organization stay ahead of regulatory requirements.

This is more than a compliance processing role. It is an opportunity to be a trusted partner in a high-impact area of the Credit Union, where strong judgment, investigative curiosity, and sound documentation help safeguard the organization every day.

What You'll Own

  • Complex BSA/AML investigations, escalated alerts, and suspicious activity reviews
  • Enhanced Due Diligence and ongoing behavioral monitoring for higher-risk members
  • Accurate and timely SAR and CTR compliance workflows
  • KYC record quality, documentation standards, and investigative consistency
  • SOP updates, process improvements, and reference materials that support a strong compliance culture
  • Cross-functional partnership with teams involved in fraud prevention, risk mitigation, and member protection

What You'll Do

  • Conduct comprehensive Enhanced Due Diligence reviews and ongoing behavioral monitoring to identify potential BSA/AML risk and support timely, informed decisions.
  • Review, analyze, and resolve alerts generated by AML software, documenting findings clearly and escalating concerns when appropriate.
  • Prepare and submit Suspicious Activity Reports in accordance with FinCEN requirements, ensuring filings are accurate, complete, timely, and well supported.
  • Oversee Currency Transaction Report workflows within the automated compliance management system to help ensure deadlines and reporting standards are consistently met.
  • Maintain accurate Know Your Customer records and support strong member due diligence practices.
  • Reconcile key reports, identify missing or inconsistent information, and partner with internal teams to resolve issues that affect regulatory compliance.
  • Update and author SOPs, job aids, and reference materials as regulations, systems, or internal processes evolve.
  • Collaborate across departments to investigate suspicious activity, reduce fraud risk, and recommend practical corrective actions.
  • Mentor new team members, reinforce best practices, and help build consistency across the Financial Crimes team.
  • Participate in special projects including system upgrades, workflow enhancements, and process improvements that strengthen Metroโ€™s BSA/AML program.

Success Looks Like in 12 to 18 Months

  • Escalated alerts and complex investigations are handled with strong judgment, clear documentation, and timely follow-through.
  • SARs, CTRs, EDD reviews, reconciliations, and KYC updates are completed accurately and within required timelines.
  • SOPs and reference materials are current, practical, and easier for team members to apply consistently.
  • Internal partners view you as a reliable resource for BSA/AML questions, documentation standards, and investigative next steps.
  • Process improvements help the team work with greater accuracy, efficiency, and consistency.
  • You are contributing to a proactive compliance culture where risks are identified early and addressed thoughtfully.

You'll Love This Role If...

  • You enjoy investigative work and can connect details, patterns, and risk indicators.
  • You care about protecting members, the Credit Union, and the integrity of the financial system.
  • You are comfortable working in a regulated environment where accuracy and documentation matter.
  • You can balance independence with strong collaboration across teams.
  • You like improving processes, clarifying expectations, and making complex compliance work easier to execute.
  • You are energized by a role where judgment, curiosity, and follow-through make a visible impact.

AI Expectations

Metro expects team members to use AI thoughtfully and responsibly to improve speed, quality, consistency, and workflow efficiency while keeping human judgment central. In this role, you will be encouraged to use Microsoft Copilot and other approved AI-powered tools to support process improvement, organize information, draft or refine documentation, identify themes, and streamline routine work across the Financial Crimes team. AI should support stronger analysis and efficiency, not replace regulatory judgment, confidentiality obligations, or required review.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience strongly preferred.
  • 2 to 3 years of related BSA, AML, financial crimes, compliance, fraud, banking, credit union, or risk experience strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of BSA/AML requirements, including Chapter X, the USA PATRIOT Act, FinCEN expectations, and the FFIEC BSA/AML Examination Manual.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to document findings clearly and accurately.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize competing deadlines, and work with diligence in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information in a practical, easy-to-understand way.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing as a collaborative team member.
  • Comfort adapting to changing priorities, regulatory expectations, systems, and workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSA Certification and/or Certified Anti-Money Laundering certification preferred.
  • Experience preparing or supporting SAR and CTR filings.
  • Experience using automated compliance management, AML monitoring, or case management systems.
  • Experience updating SOPs, job aids, or procedural documentation.
  • Experience mentoring newer team members or supporting team training.
