About the Role:

The Import Clerk plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient processing of imported goods within the transportation and warehousing industry. This position is responsible for managing all documentation and compliance requirements related to international shipments, facilitating timely customs clearance, and coordinating with various internal and external stakeholders. The Import Clerk ensures accuracy in data entry and record-keeping to maintain up-to-date shipment statuses and inventory records. By proactively identifying and resolving discrepancies or delays, the Import Clerk helps minimize disruptions in the supply chain. Ultimately, this role supports the organization's operational goals by enabling the seamless flow of imported products from origin to final destination.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of import/export regulations and documentation.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and software for data entry and record management.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills to liaise with internal teams and external partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or certification in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field.
  • Experience working in transportation, warehousing, or import/export operations.
  • Familiarity with customs clearance procedures and international trade compliance.
  • Proficiency in industry-specific software such as ERP or TMS systems.
  • Multilingual abilities to communicate with international partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, review, and process import documentation including bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and customs declarations.
  • Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and carriers to ensure compliance with import regulations and timely clearance of shipments.
  • Track and monitor shipments to provide accurate status updates and resolve any issues related to delays or discrepancies.
  • Maintain detailed and organized records of all import transactions and related correspondence for audit and reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate with warehouse and logistics teams to schedule and manage the receipt and storage of imported goods.
