Position Overview

Interact Care Wellness is seeking a dedicated and experienced Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) to join our team as a Geriatric Mental Health Counselor. In this full-time position, you will provide compassionate counseling services to seniors in a remote outpatient setting, focusing on their unique mental health needs as they navigate the complexities of aging.

Work Environment

This role is predominantly remote, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements while still enabling meaningful engagement with clients through telehealth solutions. You will interact regularly with a dedicated team of healthcare professionals who share a common goal: to promote the mental well-being of elderly individuals. Regular virtual team meetings will ensure that you stay connected with colleagues, share insights, and collaborate on developing comprehensive care plans.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough mental health assessments for elderly clients to identify their individual care needs, which may include addressing emotional challenges, cognitive decline, or behavioral concerns.
• Provide individual and group counseling sessions targeted at helping seniors cope with the emotional and psychological aspects of aging and significant life transitions.
• Collaborate actively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to formulate tailored treatment plans that integrate various therapeutic modalities and support services.
• Educate family members and caregivers on effective communication strategies and interventions that enhance the emotional well-being of their loved ones.
• Deliver grief and loss counseling, facilitating support for residents and their family members dealing with end-of-life issues.
• Implement engaging cognitive stimulation programs and mental health interventions designed to promote mental acuity and resilience among residents.

Patient Population / Client Focus

Your primary focus in this role will be elderly clients, including those dealing with chronic illnesses, cognitive impairments, grief, and the emotional stressors associated with aging. A deep understanding of the distinct challenges faced by seniors will be essential to delivering impactful care. You will work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, necessitating an empathetic approach that values cultural competence.

Qualifications

• A Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited institution.
• A valid Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) certification, with an active license to practice in New York.
• A minimum of 4 years of recent experience delivering counseling services, specifically in the geriatric mental health domain.
• A background in evidence-based practices and therapeutic interventions tailored to meet the needs of elderly clients.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in relating to seniors and their families.

Preferred Experience

• Specialization or advanced training in geriatric mental health and aging-related issues, enhancing the ability to deliver effective support to clients facing mental health challenges.
• Demonstrated success in conducting mental health assessments and designing effective treatment plans adapted for older adults.
• Familiarity with ethical and legal standards in mental health counseling, particularly as they pertain to the elderly population.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position ranges from USD 65,000 to 95,000 annually, commensurate with experience. We offer a sign-on bonus to welcome you to our team. In addition to competitive pay, our benefits package includes:
