Job description

Build the Future of Dentistry

Rochester Regional Health is seeking a visionary, system-level dental leader to serve as Consolidated Chair of Dentistry—a rare opportunity to unify and lead a six-site integrated dental network into a nationally recognized model of clinical excellence, academic strength, and technology-enabled care.

This is a career-defining leadership role for a physician executive who is motivated to build, transform, and lead at scale—advancing oral health as a core component of whole-person care.

Position Overview

The Consolidated Chair of Dentistry is a senior enterprise leader responsible for transforming Dentistry into a fully integrated, high-performing, and academically anchored department.

This role combines executive leadership with active clinical practice (50% administrative / 50% clinical) and includes accountability for:

  • Clinical quality and patient outcomes
  • Access and growth across six sites
  • Operational performance and integration
  • Academic leadership and program development

The Chair will lead the organization through a phase of stabilization to integration to innovation, building a cohesive, scalable, and future-ready dental system.

Key Responsibilities Enterprise Leadership & Integration
  • Unify dental practices into a single, coordinated department
  • Standardize clinical and operational workflows across all locations
  • Lead a provider-operations dyad model with consistent system alignment
  • Partner with Nursing leadership overseeing hygienists and dental assistants
  • Drive shared staffing models and cross-site collaboration
Clinical Leadership
  • Maintain an active 0.5 FTE clinical practice
  • Lead by example in quality, patient experience, and care delivery
  • Ensure consistent standards of care across all sites
Academic Leadership

Oversee and advance:

  • Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) Residency Program
    • Currently in Year 3, progressing toward accreditation
  • General Practice Residency (GPR) Program
    • Established program with strong faculty engagement
  • Strengthen academic infrastructure and accreditation readiness
  • Integrate education with clinical operations
  • Support faculty development and learner experience
Innovation & Technology
  • Lead advancement of digital dentistry and modern care delivery models
  • Optimize Epic and Wisdom systems and training
  • Expand use of:
    • Intraoral scanning
    • 3D printing
    • Advanced imaging technologies
  • Extend technology capabilities into community-based sites
Community & Access
  • Expand access to care across all six locations
  • Strengthen care delivery for underserved populations
  • Support nursing home dentistry programs and outreach initiatives
  • Advance Dentistry's role in population health and whole-person care
Qualifications
  • DDS or DMD required
  • Board certification (preferred, specialty-dependent)
  • Proven leadership experience in a multi-site or complex clinical environment
  • Experience in academic dentistry or residency program leadership strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change, integration, and growth
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict management skills
Ideal Candidate Profile

We are seeking a leader who is:

  • Visionary and strategic, yet operationally grounded
  • A builder and integrator, comfortable leading through change
  • A collaborative, people-first leader who fosters trust and accountability
  • Decisive and confident, with the ability to navigate complexity
  • Passionate about education, innovation, and community impact
Measures of Success
  • Fully unified Dental Department across six sites
  • Stable, standardized operations with shared accountability
  • Accredited and strengthened OMFS and GPR residency programs
  • Expanded access for underserved and community populations
  • Scaled adoption of digital dentistry and advanced technologies
