In the Navy Nurse Corps, when you work to improve the lives of others, you can also advance your own—both professionally and personally. As a Navy Nurse, you will serve your country by helping military members, their families, and people in need around the globe.
Excellent scholarship opportunities mean you may graduate from nursing school debt-free, and specialty training opportunities can give you a competitive edge in your field.
Nursing Careers in the Navy
- Nurse Anesthetists: Administer general and regional anesthesia, monitor patients, and assist in training medical personnel.
- Primary Care Nurse Practitioners: Provide comprehensive health care for service members and their families.
- Medical-Surgical Nurses: Provide direct nursing care of patients and assume charge nurse responsibilities.
- Perioperative Nurses: Plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care of surgical patients.
- Critical Care Nurses: Provide highly skilled nursing care to critical patients, including en route care.
- Mental Health Nurses & Nurse Practitioners: Provide direct mental health services and lead care teams.
- Military-Specific Specializations: Education and training, manpower systems analysis, and nursing research.

Education Opportunities
- High School Students: NROTC Nurse Option scholarships covering up to $180,000 in nursing education.
- Nursing Students: Up to $34,000 through the Nurse Candidate Program (NCP).
- Graduate Students: Up to $50,000 in loan repayment assistance for certain specialties.
- Practicing Nurses: A one-time sign-on bonus of up to $30,000, depending on specialty.
Work Environment Navy Nurses may serve at more than 250 Navy medical facilities worldwide, aboard hospital ships, or with Marine Forces.
Qualifications and Requirements
- U.S. citizen, 18–41 years old.
- Licensed and practicing nurse in the U.S. (new graduates must obtain a license within one year of Active Duty).
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a CCNE-accredited program.
Part-time opportunities are available through the Navy Reserve.
