Job description

Summary
Lightfoot Elementary is seeking a dedicated and passionate Reading Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for enhancing students' reading skills through individualized instruction, assessment, and intervention strategies. This full-time position requires collaboration with teachers, parents, and the school community to promote literacy development and foster a love for reading among students.
Responsibilities
- Assess and analyze students' reading abilities to identify areas for improvement and develop tailored intervention plans.
- Provide direct instruction in reading strategies and skills to individuals and small groups of students.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate reading instruction into the curriculum and support differentiated learning needs.
- Design and implement engaging literacy programs and activities that promote a positive reading culture within the school.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional methods as needed to ensure effective learning outcomes.
- Conduct professional development workshops for teachers on best practices in literacy instruction and intervention.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and provide resources to support reading at home.
- Stay informed about current research and trends in literacy education to continuously improve instructional practices.
- Participate in school-wide initiatives and committees to promote literacy and enhance the overall educational experience for students.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Literacy, or a related field;
- Valid teaching certification with a focus on reading or literacy instruction or willing to obtain
- Proven experience as a Reading Specialist or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of reading development and intervention strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, staff, and parents.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Proficiency in using data-driven assessments to inform instruction and track student progress.
- Passion for fostering a love of reading and literacy in students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with educational best practices.
