GIS Analyst IV / Senior Software Engineer – Geospatial Solutions

Innovate! Inc. is seeking a highly motivated individual to join its geospatial solutions team as a GIS Analyst IV / Senior Software Engineer – Geospatial Solutions. You will be called upon to provide senior‑level expertise in planning, coordinating, and leading geospatial data collection, analysis, architecture, and processing in support of research and operational applications; identifying and applying novel approaches to geospatial analysis and modeling; and guiding technical strategy for complex geospatial initiatives. This role serves as a senior technical leader across projects, providing mentorship to staff, advising clients on geospatial best practices, and supporting business growth through solution development and innovation. Location: Remote (Washington, DC)

Salary Range: $125000-$150000

Position status: Full Time; with benefits

REQUIREMENTS

• 8+ years of relevant work experience.
• Advanced knowledge of the Esri suite of GIS software as well as other geospatial frameworks, platforms, and enterprise environments, including Esri ArcGIS Server.
• Ability to serve as a senior technical lead under minimal direction with demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring, and reviewing the work of other staff.
• Expertise in analysis and modeling tools available in ArcGIS Pro, AGOL, and ArcGIS Enterprise environments.
• Strong understanding of enterprise databases, system integrations, geospatial data architecture, and relational database platforms including SQL, MS SQL Server, and Access databases.
• Expertise with .NET C#, ASP.NET, SQL, MS SQL Server, and Access databases.
• Demonstrated technical mastery and extensive experience in the processing, analysis, and modeling of geospatial data across a diverse range of commercial, open-source, and enterprise GIS platforms, including advanced scripting, automation, and cloud-based environments.
• Demonstrated expertise in preparing technical reports, technology transfer, and geospatial training materials for technology evaluation and development projects.
• Demonstrated ability to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of enterprise geospatial software applications and web-based GIS solutions.
• Demonstrated project leadership and project management experience, including scope, schedule, and technical oversight responsibilities.
• Demonstrated experience performing data modeling on corporate and disparate natural resource data.
• Advanced experience designing, developing, and maintaining geospatial web applications and interactive mapping solutions.
• Proficiency with web GIS technologies and frameworks such as ArcGIS JavaScript API, Web AppBuilder, Experience Builder, or similar platforms.
• Experience integrating geospatial services, APIs, and enterprise systems to support diverse scientific, analytical, and operational workflows.
• Demonstrated experience supporting deployment, configuration, and maintenance of geospatial web applications in cloud and enterprise environments.
• Experience translating scientific or technical requirements into scalable geospatial web-based tools and user-focused applications.
• Skilled in developing custom Python scripts for geoprocessing, analysis, automation, and system integration.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and team members and produce high-quality technical reports and training materials.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Lead the architecture, design, development, and enhancement of scalable geospatial web software applications, large-scale data processing workflows, and high-performance visualization interfaces.
• Serve as a senior technical lead with minimal supervision, including coaching, mentoring, and reviewing the work of technical staff.
• Plan, coordinate, and lead geospatial data collection, processing, analysis, and application development in support of research and operational objectives.
• Translate scientific and technical requirements into intuitive, user-focused geospatial web tools, analytical applications, and decision-support solutions.
• Develop, manage, and analyze geospatial data sets, including unique and disparate data and information, to support complex projects and enterprise initiatives.
• Evaluate new technologies, including sensors, platforms, software technologies, data processing and analysis methods, data mining, and geospatial modeling approaches, and assess their feasibility for integration into client solutions and long-term technical strategy.
• Architect, deploy, configure, and enhance enterprise and cloud-based geospatial web solutions.
• Integrate geospatial services, APIs, enterprise systems, databases, and analytical workflows to support scientific, operational, and business functions.
• Develop and maintain custom applications and components using .NET C#, ASP.NET, SQL, and related technologies in support of enterprise geospatial solutions.
• Use ArcGIS JavaScript API, Web AppBuilder, Experience Builder, and similar frameworks to build and enhance interactive web mapping applications.
• Develop advanced custom Python scripts and tools for geoprocessing, analysis, automation, and system integration.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including clients, scientists, analysts, developers, and project managers, to deliver effective geospatial applications and solutions.
• Lead the development of advanced geospatial visualization and analytical tools for complex data exploration, interpretation, and communication.
• Identify organizational and client needs and design GIS solutions, architectures, and implementation approaches to meet those needs.
• Support proposal development, define technical approaches, and engage strategically with clients and teaming partners.
• Manage complex spatial modeling, workflow design, automation, and enterprise geospatial solution development.
• Communicate effectively with clients, teaming partners, and internal staff at all levels.

EDUCATION

• Degree in Geography, GIS, Remote Sensing, or a related Physical/Biological/Natural Resource discipline with substantive coursework in geospatial analysis and modeling. Relevant work experience required based on education level:
  • PhD + 3 years of experience
  • Master’s degree + 5 years of experience
  • Bachelor’s degree + 8 years of experience
  • Non‑related degree or certification + 10 years of experience
