It’s 6:00 a.m. on the ramp. Baggage tugs idle, deicers warm up, and belt loaders queue for the day’s first arrivals. As our GSE Diesel Technician, you’re the force that makes that reliable start possible — protecting safety, uptime, and the passenger experience across Cedar Rapids’ airfield.

What You’ll Tackle

• Execute preventive maintenance, inspections, and expert diagnostics on engines, transmissions, drivelines, suspensions, brakes, electrical, and hydraulic systems for vehicles and ground support equipment.
• Use diagnostic software and tools — from scanners and meters to a photo tachometer — along with schematics and technical manuals to isolate and resolve complex electrical/hydraulic faults within set timelines.
• Document work orders, track parts, and manage inventory through a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Collaborate closely with station leaders and peers to meet maintenance intervals; uphold safety practices; support site audits; and adhere to environmental regulations.
• Conduct routine tool/equipment spot-checks and keep the shop clean, safe, and compliant.
• Report equipment status daily and remain ready for off-shift call-ins tied to weather or operational demands.

What You Bring

• High school diploma (or equivalent), age 18+, and proficiency communicating in English (read, write, and give clear verbal directions).
• Deep familiarity with diesel equipment and airport GSE, fluid systems, and advanced diagnostic techniques/tools (including scanners, meters, and a photo tachometer).
• Proven hands-on ability across engines, transmissions, drivelines, suspension, brakes, electrical, and hydraulics — diagnosis through repair.
• Your own core tool set, including sockets/wrenches up to 1 inch and up to 1/2-inch drive.
• Comfort with basic-to-intermediate computers and strong time management to juggle multiple deadlines.
• Professional interpersonal skills, tact with customers and teammates, and strict confidentiality.

Licenses & Team Leadership

• Valid driver’s license required.
• Opportunities to train others, supervise tasks, and provide constructive feedback as needed.

Where You’ll Work

• Hands-on, physically demanding setting with extended standing.
• Outdoor exposure in all seasons — temperature swings, humidity, odors, and proximity to heavy moving equipment.
• High noise levels at times common to an active airfield.

Physical Capability

• Mobility across the shop and ramp: sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, reach, and handle tools for extended periods.
• Lift and/or move items up to — and occasionally exceeding — 100 lbs; work at heights over 20 feet.
• Clear speech and effective hearing for safe, precise communication.

Schedule & Travel

• Full-time; plan for at least 40 hours per week.
• Some travel (domestic/international) may be required on short notice to meet urgent operational needs.

Security Clearance

• Ability to obtain and maintain all security clearances required by Transport Canada, TSA, and/or local Airport Authorities.
• Ability to pass pre-employment background screenings.
