Compensation Manager

ISC is looking for a Compensation Manager who knows the technical side of compensation and understands the strategic role compensation plays in achieving success within an organization.

This is not a role for someone who wants to sit above the details. You will evaluate jobs, review market data, test salary structures, support merit and bonus cycles, advise leaders on pay decisions and work through the implications of compensation changes before recommendations move forward.

You will also have a meaningful voice in how ISC approaches pension, benefits, recognition and total rewards over time.

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, this direct contributor role carries significant independence, visibility and accountability. You will work closely with HR business partners, finance, legal, senior leaders, vendors and external consultants, and you will be expected to provide advice that is clear, practical and defensible.

What You Will Own

Compensation is the largest part of the role. You will lead job evaluation and classification work for both in-scope and out-of-scope positions, including individual job changes and broader organizational restructures. You will conduct market reviews, interpret salary survey data, assess pay positioning and recommend changes to salary ranges and compensation practices.

You will also:

• advise leaders and HR business partners on pay decisions;
• support annual merit and bonus processes;
• manage short- and long-term incentive programs;
• contribute to the design and administration of sales incentive plans;
• complete pay equity, pay equality and gender gap analysis and reporting;
• prepare financial modelling, benchmarking and impact analysis;
• support executive compensation work as required; and
• work with ISC’s internal Workday resources to manage compensation processes and data.

The role also oversees pension and benefits programming across ISC and its subsidiaries. That includes renewals, provider relationships, compliance, plan reviews, pension filings and support for employees approaching retirement. Over time, you may also contribute to benefit-provider reviews, RFPs and acquisition-related due diligence. You do not need to arrive as a pension expert. ISC is most interested in finding someone with strong compensation depth who is willing and able to build knowledge across pension and benefits.

Who Will Do Well Here

You are likely someone who has worked as a compensation analyst, senior compensation advisor or compensation specialist and is ready for broader ownership. You understand the theory, but you are equally comfortable working through the data yourself. You can look at a market review, salary structure or pay analysis and identify what matters, what does not, and what action the organization should take. You are comfortable explaining difficult or sensitive information to leaders and employees without becoming overly technical or vague.

ISC is looking for someone who brings:

• at least six years of progressively responsible experience in compensation, pension and benefits, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
• strong experience with job evaluation, market pricing, salary structures and compensation analysis;
• advanced analytical skills and confidence working with complex HR and compensation data;
• sound judgment and the ability to make practical business recommendations;
• strong written and verbal communication skills;
• discretion and a high level of integrity; and
• the curiosity and follow-through to take ownership of work from analysis through implementation.

Experience with Workday would be helpful, particularly the compensation module, but it is not essential. Strong compensation fundamentals matter more.

A degree or diploma in Commerce, Business Administration, Human Resources or a related field is preferred. A Certified Compensation Professional or Chartered Professional in Human Resources designation would be an asset.
