Role Description The Cable Technician is a full-time, on-site role located in Waukee, IA. This role involves installing, terminating, and testing network and low-voltage cables, including structured cabling systems in various environments. Day-to-day tasks include reading and following blueprints or job plans, routing cables, using hand tools and testing equipment, and ensuring all work meets safety codes and company quality standards. The Cable Technician will troubleshoot cabling issues, repair or replace damaged lines, and communicate with supervisors and team members to complete projects on time. The role also includes maintaining a clean and organized work area, documenting work performed, and interacting professionally with clients when needed.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of cables and cabling practices, including installation, termination, and testing.
  • Experience with structured cabling systems and basic low-voltage infrastructure.
  • Understanding of electricity fundamentals and safe work practices around electrical components.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools commonly required for cabling work (e.g., crimpers, punch-down tools, drills).
  • Ability to read and follow drawings, blueprints, and work orders accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to safety procedures.
  • Physical ability to lift equipment, work on ladders, and move through confined spaces as required by the job.
  • Reliable transportation to job sites in and around Waukee, IA.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications in cabling or low-voltage systems are a plus.
  • Previous experience in cable installation, telecommunications, or related fields is preferred but not required for motivated candidates willing to learn.
