Position Summary

Sportsman’s Finest is seeking an experienced and highly organized Purchasing Manager to oversee buying and inventory management for our Hunting, Firearms, and Fly Fishing departments. This role is responsible for managing seasonal buys, maintaining appropriate inventory levels, executing replenishment purchases, and maximizing inventory productivity while supporting company sales and profitability goals.

The ideal candidate will have extensive retail purchasing experience, strong financial acumen, and a passion for the outdoor industry.

Responsibilities

  • Manage seasonal purchasing plans across Hunting, Firearms, Fly Fishing, and related product categories.
  • Execute replenishment buying to maintain appropriate inventory levels and maximize sales opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships with key industry partners.
  • Analyze sales trends, inventory performance, and market conditions to make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Manage purchasing budgets and inventory investments to achieve company financial objectives.
  • Utilize forecasting and inventory planning tools to optimize stock levels and inventory turns.
  • Coordinate new product introductions and seasonal assortments.
  • Monitor open purchase orders and work with vendors to ensure timely delivery.
  • Collaborate with department managers and leadership to develop product assortments and merchandising strategies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve margins, inventory productivity, and vendor programs.
  • Prepare reports and provide regular inventory and purchasing updates to leadership.
  • Merchandising and cycling backstock product to sales floor, to include organization of product displays..

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Lead Buyer, Purchasing Manager, or similar purchasing role.
  • Proven experience managing seasonal buying cycles.
  • Strong understanding of inventory planning, purchasing budgets, and financial management.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  •  Ability to manage multiple product categories and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and vendor relationship management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with retail buying groups.
  • Experience utilizing Open-to-Buy (OTB) systems and other inventory planning tools.
  • Background in sporting goods, outdoor retail, firearms, hunting, or fly fishing industries.
  • Familiarity with retail inventory management systems and ERP platforms.
