Engineering Technician Job Summary

The Engineering Technician will support the development and implementation of fiberglass recycling technologies to advance zero-waste-to-landfill and circular economy goals. The technician will prepare, process, and test fiberglass raw material samples while maintaining accurate sample traceability, documentation, and data records. They will operate laboratories, particle-sizing, and processing equipment, including mills, shredders, and material testing instruments. Assist in the design, assembly, and operation of pilot and prototype equipment used to evaluate recycling processes and technologies. They will also collaborate with engineers, laboratories, manufacturing, maintenance, facilities, and safety teams to conduct experiments and support plant trials.

Engineering Technician Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare, catalog, package, and ship fiberglass raw material samples for testing.
  • Collect, separate, size, and process samples while preventing contamination and maintaining traceability.
  • Operate mills, shredders, particle-sizing, and laboratory testing equipment.
  • Perform material testing, including density and particle size distribution analysis.
  • Record, organize, and maintain accurate testing data and sample records.
  • Coordinate testing with glass, batch, and circular economy teams.
  • Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and maintain inventory.
  • Build, assemble, and operate pilot and prototype equipment using hand and power tools.
  • Source construction materials and coordinate utilities, maintenance, facilities, and safety requirements.
  • Conduct experiments, collect data, and support manufacturing plant trials.
  • Follow all safety procedures and support continuous improvement of recycling processes.

Engineering Technician Job Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Engineering or related technical field.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment, testing, and technical data organization.
  • Strong electro-mechanical and hands-on mechanical skills.
  • Experience building or assembling prototypes, piping, instrumentation, fluids, or hot-gas systems.
  • Ability to safely operate processing, testing, hand, and power-tool equipment.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to work effectively across R&D, Operations, Maintenance, Facilities, and Safety teams.
  • Safety-focused with the ability to support manufacturing plant trials.
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to 25%.
  • Preferred experience with glass/minerals processing or recycling equipment such as grinding, sorting, separation, and bulk material handling.
