Position Summary
The Social Media and Campaign Strategist owns Human Rights First's social media presence and leads digital engagement campaigns in support of email, fundraising, and advocacy objectives. Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing amp; Communications, this position connects supporter engagement on social and email directly to fundraising and advocacy outcomes.
This role also supports day-to-day team operations, including intern supervision, the press inbox, and website content, working closely with the Communications Strategist to keep departmental workflows running smoothly.
Working collaboratively with program experts, executive leadership, Development, and the marketing and communications team, the Strategist ensures Human Rights First communicates with one clear, consistent, and compelling voice across all channels.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Provide vision, leadership, and direction for Human Rights First's integrated marketing and communications program.
Social Media Strategy amp; Content (40%)
  • Maintain the organization's editorial calendar.
  • Create, produce, and publish content across all organizational platforms.
  • Adapt messaging and creative for platform-specific audiences.
  • Monitor conversations, respond to engagement, and flag emerging opportunities or risks.
  • Support executive and organizational visibility through social channels.
  • Coordinate live social coverage of organizational events.
  • Prepare regular social media performance reports and recommend improvements.
  • Liaise with communications counterparts to integrate strategic messaging into communications outputs, including social media and fundraising/advocacy campaigns.
Email, Fundraising amp; Advocacy Campaigns (35%)
  • Plan, draft and execute email campaigns, including newsletters, case studies, fundraising appeals, and advocacy action alerts.
  • Partner with Development and programming teams to align email content with fundraising and advocacy goals.
  • Ensure consistent messaging across advocacy, fundraising, and organizational communications.
  • Design and produce graphics, video, and multimedia content in supporting campaigns.
  • Coordinate the email production calendar across departments.
  • Support integration of CRM data into segmentation and targeting strategy.
  • Support integrated organizational campaigns by developing key messages and narrative content.
Team Operations amp; Website (10%)
  • Support select rapid-response efforts outside of normal working hours.
  • Monitor and triage the general press inbox.
  • Coordinate intern assignments and provide day-to-day guidance on communications projects.
  • Maintain and update website content as needed.
  • Crosstrain on other team responsibilities and fill in during absences and vacancies.
  • Support other departmental operations as assigned.
Digital Campaign Analytics amp; Reporting (10%)
  • Monitor campaign performance and recommend improvements based on engagement data.
  • Track performance across social, email, and digital advocacy channels.
  • Prepare regular dashboards and reports for department leadership.
  • Recommend data-informed adjustments to content and campaign strategy.
Organizational Communications (5%)
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director and Communications Strategist on sensitive communications and crisis messaging.

Required Knowledge, Skill, and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field.
  • Minimum of four years (Strategist) or six years (senior strategist) of experience in social media management and email/digital marketing, ideally in a nonprofit or advocacy setting.
  • Strong understanding of social platform analytics and content strategy.
  • Experience with email marketing platforms and CRM/advocacy systems (e.g., EveryAction, Quorum, or similar).
  • Demonstrated experience building segmented and automated email campaigns.
  • Experience supporting fundraising or advocacy campaigns through digital channels.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of WordPress and content management systems.
  • Knowledge of AP Style and editorial best practices.
