Summary

The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, seeks a Director of Risk Management for one of the largest Catholic dioceses in the United States, serving a ten-county region in Southeast Texas which includes the Greater Houston metropolitan area. The Archdiocese includes more than 140 parishes, Catholic schools, cemeteries, and other facilities. The position plays a critical role in protecting the Archdiocese's physical assets, financial resources, and mission-driven ministries while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and operational resilience across the Archdiocese. This full-time, benefits-eligible position reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and the office is located at the Downtown Chancery in Houston. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Candidates should have knowledge of Catholic teachings and be able to support and represent the mission and values of the Catholic Church. A practicing Catholic in good standing is preferred.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee Archdiocesan risk management, loss prevention, and insurance programs.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to property, safety, liability, and operations.
  • Manage insurance coverage, renewals, claims, reporting, and relationships with brokers, carriers, attorneys, and service providers.
  • Establish risk tracking, loss reporting, analytics, and executive-level reporting processes.
  • Promote a culture of risk awareness through training, education, and compliance initiatives.
  • Coordinate disaster recovery, emergency response, FEMA-related activities, and business continuity planning.
  • Maintain property schedules, asset inventories, claims databases, inspection records, and risk management policies.
  • Partner with Legal, Accounting, Construction, Information Services, and parish leadership to ensure effective risk management practices.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management or a related field required.
  • Master's degree (MBA, MPA, or MS in Risk Management) preferred.
  • Minimum five years of leadership experience in risk management.
  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation required.
  • CPCU designation, or willingness to obtain, preferred.
  • Knowledge of insurance claims management, facility operations, safety programs, and building construction.
  • Strong analytical, communication, project management, and Microsoft Office skills.
  • Valid Texas driver's license required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in varied environments, including heights and confined spaces.
