Position: Food and Pantry Warehouse Trainee

Location: Boccardo Reception Center (2011 Little Orchard Street, San Jose)                                         

Employment Type: Temporary, Part Time, Non-Exempt                            

Employment Term: 6 Months

Compensation: $27.98/Hourly                            

 This role is only available to current participants at our BRC location, no other candidates will be accepted at this time.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The New Start program is a Training Compensation Program operated by HomeFirst. This program functions as a job readiness, hands-on work experience, and training program designed to help program trainee’s move toward long-term employment. You will participate in 4 hours per day, 5 days per week of mixed classroom learning and work-based activities for six months.

This program is seasonal and part-time. Your employment will end automatically when you graduate from the program. No long-term or permanent employment will be offered by HomeFirst as a result of this program. 

 
 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This role reports to the Shift Supervisor for the New Start Program. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIIBLITIES

Food/Pantry Warehouse 

The Food Warehouse Associate must have the ability to communicate with delivery companies, drivers, appliance repair, and be able to perform light administrative duties.

 • Receives and inventories food and beverage products and supplies.

 • Assist in maintaining a clean, orderly warehouse and outside storage area. 

 • Assist in loading and unloading vehicles for meal delivery to other locations.

 • Plan placement and organization of food, supplies and kitchen materials per Second Harvest   Food Bank, United State Department of Agriculture and Santa Clara County Environmental Department protocols and rules.

 • Store food and rotate stock in preparation for storage and/or distribution

 • Ensures refrigerators and freezers maintain First In-First Out practices 

• Work with Cooks in menu planning based on food inventories

• Monitors “Food Boxes” and ensure inventory for them

• Rotate and learn about different areas of production. • Ensures proper food storage procedures are followed. 

• Responsible for wrapping, labeling, dating, stocking, storing, rotating and checking the temperature of products. 

• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 to 60 pounds. 

 • Must be able to work in both hot and cold environments and must be able to stand for long periods.

 • Providing a clean, safe and efficient operation of the Food Pantry

 • Management of documents and paperwork including food inventory, food log sheets and invoices

 • Perform inspection and cleaning of warehouse and kitchen equipment daily. Report any equipment that needs service and repair

 • Prepare and submit daily/weekly reports for Food and Kitchen Manager 

• Keeping accurate records of the amount of food coming in and out each month 

• Provide training to volunteers, ensuring safety, efficiency and effective communication 

• Providing timely communication to coworkers, supervisors, and clients.

 • Additional projects assigned by the supervisor and director. 

• Team player with a can-do attitude.

Physical Requirements:

 • Ability to stand and move for extended periods 

• Comfortable working in wet, hot, and humid environments

 • Able to bend, stoop, lift, and reach repeatedly throughout shift 

 BENEFITS

This role does not have any benefits except for the California Paid Sick Leave (PSL). Sick Time applies as required by law, part time employees will accrue 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
