Job description

DB2 Database Administrator

Location: New York, NY (On-site — Manhattan)

Employment Type: Full-time, 35 hours/week

Salary Range: $75,000 – $160,000 annually

Work Authorization: U.S. work authorization required; no visa sponsorship available

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced DB2 Database Administrator to support the mission-critical mainframe database environment of a major NYC public-sector organization. In this hands-on, on-site role, you will be responsible for the performance, reliability, availability, and recoverability of DB2 databases running on the IBM z/OS mainframe platform. This is a true DB2 z/OS DBA position — ideal for a specialist who has built a career on the mainframe and takes pride in keeping high-volume, always-on systems running cleanly.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer, maintain, and support DB2 v12+ databases on the IBM z/OS mainframe platform
  • Perform database performance tuning and optimization to ensure efficient query execution and system throughput
  • Execute and manage core DB2 utilities, including RUNSTATS, REORGs, and image copies
  • Design, implement, and test backup, recovery, and disaster recovery (DR) strategies
  • Manage data replication using IBM InfoSphere Data Replication
  • Monitor database health, proactively identify issues, and resolve incidents to minimize downtime
  • Support capacity planning, storage management, and database security in line with organizational standards
  • Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and operations teams to support ongoing initiatives and maintenance windows
  • Maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and recovery plans

Required Qualifications
  • Proven, hands-on experience as a dedicated DB2 z/OS DBA (this is a mainframe role — LUW/Linux DB2 experience alone does not qualify)
  • Strong working knowledge of DB2 v12 or higher on IBM z/OS
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the full DB2 utility stack: RUNSTATS, REORG, image copy, and recovery
  • Solid understanding of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery principles and practices
  • Experience with performance tuning and problem diagnosis in a high-availability environment
  • Ability to work on-site in Manhattan, New York City
  • Authorization to work in the United States (no sponsorship provided)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with IBM InfoSphere Data Replication
  • Exposure to monitoring and administration tooling such as BMC utilities or IBM OMEGAMON
  • IBM DB2 for z/OS certification(s)
  • Prior experience supporting public-sector or government database environments

  • Compensation & Benefits
    • Annual salary of $75,000 – $160,000, commensurate with experience
    • 35-hour work week
    • Comprehensive benefits package, including health coverage, pension, deferred compensation plans, and paid leave

    How to Apply

Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply with an up-to-date resume highlighting relevant DB2 z/OS experience.

We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
