Job description

Job Title: Part Time Security Guard

Location: Westchester County, New York

PT: Variable nights up to 20 hours per week

Salary: $20.00 per hour

Historic Hudson Valley (HHV) is a Westchester-based cultural non-profit that welcomes visitors to four National Historic Landmarks, including Philipsburg Manor, Van Cortlandt Manor, and Washington Irving’s Sunnyside. HHV offers an array of K-12 school programs, public tours, and seasonal festivals including the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze.  The organization has a national reputation for groundbreaking on-site educational programs and award-winning digital content in the areas of Northern colonial enslavement, regional women’s history, and storytelling.

Historic Hudson Valley is seeking a Part-Time Security Guard to help protect and care for HHV’s historic sites, facilities, visitors, staff, and collections.

Essential Duties

The Security Guard will:

  •  Patrol HHV grounds and buildings after closing to help protect sites from unauthorized access, fire, hazards, and property damage.
  • Monitor assigned areas during festivals, programs, and special events.
  • Observe, document, and report unusual circumstances, including trespassers, storm damage, lighting or equipment issues, safety hazards, or other incidents.
  • Respond to alarms, emergency situations, and site-security concerns at HHV locations as assigned.
  • Walk and patrol historic-site grounds, including uneven terrain, stairs, outdoor areas, and low-light conditions, using appropriate lighting and safety equipment.
  • Follow HHV security procedures, emergency protocols, reporting requirements, and supervisor instructions.
  • Use basic computer systems for email, reports, logs, and related communications.
  • Perform other related security duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have:

  • At least two years of security, law enforcement, military, public safety, facilities safety, or closely related experience.
  • A valid and current New York State Security Guard registration card.
  • Completion of required New York State security guard training, including the 8-hour pre-assignment course and 16-hour on-the-job training course, or proof of applicable waiver or equivalent status recognized by New York State.
  • Ability to complete required annual in-service training and maintain all legally required credentials.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including email, internet use, and Microsoft Word or similar software.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work variable evening/night shifts, weekends, holidays, festivals, and special events as scheduled.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working at cultural, museum, historic-site, nonprofit, event, campus, or public-facing facilities.
  • Experience preparing written incident reports or shift logs.
  • Familiarity with alarm response, fire-watch procedures, crowd observation, or emergency communication protocols.

Equal Employment Opportunity

Historic Hudson Valley is an equal opportunity employer. Employment decisions are based on job-related qualifications, merit, experience, performance, and operational needs. HHV complies with applicable federal, New York State, and local employment laws and prohibits unlawful discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.

HHV does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, creed, sex, pregnancy or pregnancy-related condition, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, marital status, military or veteran status, citizenship or immigration status, arrest or conviction record, predisposing genetic characteristics, domestic violence victim status, or any other status protected by applicable law.

Applicants who need reasonable accommodation for any part of the application or hiring process may request one through HHV’s application process.
