Job description

Job Title: Substitute Teacher
Reports to: Campus Administrator
Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt
District: Heritage Academy
Campus: San Antonio, Texas (Windcrest)
Position Summary:
Teaches and facilitates learning for students in a Heritage Academy schools, maintaining academic progress, discipline and records. Works with parents and students to provide and implement individualized education to meet the needs of all students.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
  • Prefer a Bachelors Degree from an accredited College or University and meet requirements for HQ status: (1) Texas State Teacher's Certification in Elementary EC-6; (2) passing score on an ExCET/TExES core academic area examination.
  • Teacher's Certification recommended but not required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Must have passion for children.
  • Must have the ability and patience to work interactively with children.
  • Must have basic knowledge of federal and state education laws.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must have strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have time management skills.
  • Must be able to learn and implement teaching curriculum software programs and instruct students on utilization.
  • Must have the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Must have the ability to communicate with all levels of students, parents, the community, peers, administrative staff, Campus Directors, Superintendent, and Corporate staff.
  • Must have the ability to transition with changes.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Must have the ability to travel as necessary.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction preferred.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Instruct and motivate students in all course study.
  • Assign lessons and correct homework.
  • Maintain discipline in the classroom.
  • Maintain classroom that is conducive to learning; safe, sightly and stimulating.
  • Set a good housekeeping example in the classroom and encourage students to follow this example.
  • Inspire students with consistency, care, and interest to build students' self-esteem and promote continued success.
  • Praise students, compliment them and encourage them in order to build character.
  • Utilizes a variety of learning methods to enhance the students' learning experiences.

Experience
  • Teaching experience in a Public School is preferred.
  • Teacher's Certification recommended but not required.

  • All equipment required to perform jobs duties and tasks previously described.
