Job description

Position Description About Harris County Flood Control District: The Harris County Flood Control District has the mission to reduce the risk of flooding in Harris County, the third most populated county in the United States, with a population in excess of 4.7 million, including the City of Houston, the nation's fourth largest city. The District has jurisdiction over the county's primary stormwater facilities, consisting of approximately 1,500 channels totaling nearly 2,500 miles in length, as well as more than 60 regional stormwater detention basins, totaling more than 10,000 acres and several wetlands mitigation banks. What you will do at Harris County Flood Control District: The Harris County Flood Control District is seeking talented candidates for the role of an Infrastructure Repairs Inspector

Responsible for inspecting and providing quality control of the Harris County Flood Control District's drainage and channel maintenance projects. The Inspector will work closely with outside contractors to carry out construction repairs on drainage channels, detention basins, out falls, slope failures, and other repairs on open waterways within Harris County. Essential Functions and Duties: Inspect Harris County Flood Control District's infrastructure maintenance projects involving channels, basins, outfall pipes and slope failures.

Measure, calculate, and verify contract quantities completed by the contractor for payment. Maintain daily records of work performed by contractors. Complete project work orders and schedule contract work.

Conduct site evaluations of completed, active and future projects. Prepare invoice estimates for monthly contractor payments. Complete daily status reports, project reports, and contractor work schedules.

Schedule and conduct project update meetings with contractor representatives. Additional Responsibilities and Duties: Interact and mediate with contractors, engineers, and Harris County Flood Control District staff to resolve problems identified on the plans or on the job site. Review developer or utility construction plans and specifications involving non flood control features for compliance with the Harris County Flood Control District criteria.

Acts as back-up for flood gate operations which may require activities beyond the usual work hours. May perform other duties that can be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directs. equivalent Experience: Experience in construction inspection or a similar field. Licensure: Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License. Knowledge Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Good verbal & written communication skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and/or assignments. Good organizational skills.

Knowledge of construction standards, practices, and techniques. Knowledge of bayou, drainage area, and rights-of-way maintenance. NOTE: Qualifying education, experience, knowledge, and skills must be documented on your job application.

Preferences Education: Associate degree or higher in Construction Management or a related field from an accredited college or university (preferred) Experience: Previous inspection experience in interpreting drainage and flood control construction plans and inspecting construction installations.

Frequent driving of an ATV and/ or a pickup truck hauling a trailer with ATVs.

Frequent walking several miles a day carrying a handheld computer, GPS device and camera. Frequent walking up and down steep slopes of ditches or on rough and uneven surfaces or ground such as sloping terrains, plowed or furrowed areas or construction sites. Work is performed outdoors where there will be routine exposure to significant levels of rain, heat, cold, moisture, air pollution, noise, wind and dust.
