Work Environment

Our established protocols allow for flexible scheduling within a typical workweek spanning Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough mental health assessments of elderly residents to evaluate their specific needs and concerns, focusing on aspects such as emotional well-being, cognitive functioning, and social interactions.
• Facilitate engaging individual and group counseling sessions that address emotional challenges stemming from aging, losses, and major life transitions.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to devise comprehensive and personalized care plans for each geriatric resident, promoting their overall health and wellness.
• Educate family members and staff on techniques to enhance the emotional well-being and quality of life for elderly individuals, ensuring consistent and empathetic support.
• Provide grief and loss counseling to both residents and their families, navigating the complex emotions tied to end-of-life transitions.
• Implement cognitive stimulation programs and targeted mental health interventions tailored to promote mental acuity and engagement among the elderly.

Patient Population / Client Focus

Your primary focus will be on the elderly population at our Geriatric Care Clinic, a demographic often facing challenges such as loss, chronic illness, and significant life transitions. As a mental health counselor, you will play a critical role in equipping these individuals with coping strategies, nurturing their emotional resilience, and enhancing their overall quality of life.

Qualifications

• A Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited institution or university is required.
• Current and valid Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) licensure in the state of Florida.
• A minimum of 4 years of recent experience in geriatric counseling and mental health support.
• Demonstrated understanding of evidence-based practices designed to promote mental well-being among seniors.
• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to develop rapport with elderly clients, caregivers, and healthcare providers.
• Empathy, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to supporting older adults from diverse backgrounds.
• Familiarity with ethical and legal standards in geriatric mental health counseling practices.

Preferred Experience

• Additional training or specialization in geriatric mental health and aging-related issues.
