Job description

Summary

Harbor Capital Advisors, Inc. ("Harbor Capital") is seeking an Accountant, Fund Administration to join its Fund Administration and Analysis team. This role supports day-to-day fund administration activities for Harbor's mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), including expense oversight, reconciliations, operational processes, service provider coordination, and related control activities. The position offers an opportunity to build a strong foundation in investment fund administration and accounting through hands-on involvement with fund expenses, reporting, operational support, and cross-functional initiatives. This individual will partner with internal teams and third-party service providers while contributing to process improvement, automation, and technology initiatives that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and controls.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, eager to learn, and interested in developing broad knowledge of registered investment products, fund accounting, and fund administration. This position is a hybrid role based in Chicago. Employees are currently expected to work in the office Tuesday through Thursday each week. Key Responsibilities
  • Review custodian-prepared fund expense calculations, invoice activity, accruals, allocations, and related supporting documentation.

  • Support daily fund administration activities for Harbor mutual funds and ETFs, including operational monitoring, reconciliations, and exception resolution.

  • Analyze fund expense ratios, including accruals, allocations, and compliance with prospectus limits.

  • Support the calculation, review, and validation of mutual fund income and capital gain distributions.

  • Support security valuation processes, including pricing exception review, issue resolution, and escalation to the Valuation Committee as appropriate.

  • Reconcile mutual fund transaction activity including subscriptions, redemptions, and income postings.

  • Assist with complex operational aspects to launch new funds, share classes, and accounts.

  • Support oversight of custodians and other service providers by monitoring recurring processes, reviewing exceptions, tracking open items, and escalating issues as needed.

  • Assist with review of regulatory financial reporting and performance reporting.

  • Participate in process improvement, automation, and technology enhancement initiatives.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

  • 1 - 3 years of' fund accounting or related experience preferred.

  • Experience with mutual funds, ETFs, or registered investment companies preferred.

  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred, but not required.

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Professionalism, sound judgment, and a strong sense of accountability.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excel, AI, Power BI and Tableau experience preferred.

Compensation Pay Range: $70,000 - $80,000
