SUMMARY

The X-ray technician accurately demonstrates anatomical structures on a radiograph by applying knowledge of anatomy, positioning and radiographic technique.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Operates limited medical X-ray equipment, having basic knowledge in clinical applications of radiologic techniques.
  2. Performs basic diagnostic radiographs.
  3. Performs basic CT procedures including contrast studies.
  4. Provides administrative assistance for procedures which are pertinent to the radiology service.

 ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1.  Transports patients to and from assigned area.
  2. Provides radiation protection to self and public.
  3. Working knowledge of PACS system.
  4.  Adheres to the dress code, attendance and all other company policies and procedures.

 KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Graduate from an accredited radiologic technology program required; American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification preferred.
  2. Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required.  This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent. 
  3. Good verbal and written communication skills. 
  4. Adaptable to changing work schedules and patient needs.
  5. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. May be exposed to the risk of communicable diseases and radiation.
  2. May require handling of unclean or infectious materials.
  3. Normally works in a well-lighted, well-ventilated area.
  4. Must be able to work under the stress and conditions that normally exist in a hospital setting.
  5. Classification Category 1 – Tasks that involve exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues.
