Position Description:
HME, Inc., a leading structural steel fabricator, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Strategic Inventory Specialist to join our team. This role is ideal for a procurement professional with deep knowledge of the carbon steel industry and experience sourcing structural steel products in a fabrication environment.
The Strategic Inventory Specialist will support the Procurement Manager and Strategic Inventory Manager by providing material expertise, procurement support, pricing analysis, and supplier coordination for structural steel projects throughout the United States.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Procurement Manager and Strategic Sourcing Specialist with the following:
- Reviewing estimates to ensure competitive material pricing, minimal scrap, quantity/length adjustments, and market insight during the bidding process.
- Review Advanced Bills of Material (ABOMs) to identify purchasing opportunities and support strategic inventory decisions.
- Support procurement activities for structural steel materials including:
- Wide flange beams
- Hollow Structural Sections (HSS/Tubing)
- Plate products
- Channels, angles, and other structural steel products
- Assist with sourcing and procurement of fabrication hardware and related materials.
- Work with suppliers to obtain pricing, availability, lead times, and material information for project-specific requirements.
- Coordinate with estimating, project management, and operations teams to help ensure timely material availability and schedule compliance.
- Assist in identifying strategic buy opportunities and inventory optimization initiatives.
- Help resolve material shortages, delivery issues, and supplier-related concerns.
- Maintain accurate procurement records and support reporting functions as needed.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement or purchasing within the carbon steel industry required.
- Structural steel fabrication industry experience strongly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of structural steel products, grades, and market conditions.
- Ability to read and interpret bills of material and fabrication drawings preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems preferred.
