Job description

Position Summary

  • Seeking a highly skilled Telecommunications Technical Trainer to develop and deliver training programs for technicians supporting coaxial and fiber telecommunications systems. This role provides instruction on mainline network infrastructure and field operations while ensuring technicians meet operational, safety, and quality standards. The ideal candidate has strong field experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to travel extensively to project locations and training sites.

 

Training and Development

  • Develop, update, and deliver training programs for telecommunications technicians.
  • Provide instruction in classroom, virtual, and hands-on field environments.
  • Train technicians on coaxial network systems, fiber optic systems, mainline installation and maintenance, in-home installation and service procedures, troubleshooting methods, safety procedures, and industry standards.
  • Conduct onboarding and technician certification programs.
  • Evaluate trainee performance through written and practical assessments.
  • Identify skill gaps and provide coaching and development plans.
  • Maintain training documentation and records.

 

Technical Responsibilities

  • Coaxial training: hardline cable preparation and installation, RF fundamentals, signal balancing, amplifiers, taps, splitters, line extenders, leakage detection, and troubleshooting.
  • Fiber training: fiber optic fundamentals, fiber splicing and termination, OTDR testing and interpretation, fiber troubleshooting and repair, and ONT installation/service.

 

Field Support Responsibilities

  • Travel to regional offices, field locations, and project sites as required.
  • Support field operations and technicians during deployments.
  • Observe and assess field performance.
  • Ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Assist with implementation of process improvements.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3-5+ years of telecommunications field experience.
  • Experience with both coaxial and fiber technologies strongly preferred.
  • Experience with mainline plant operations, in-home installations, service, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications testing equipment.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to train and mentor employees at multiple experience levels.
  • Valid driver''s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout multiple states.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior training or instructor experience.
  • Technical degree or telecommunications certification.
  • Fiber certification experience.
  • Broadband, HFC, FTTH, or telecommunications industry certifications.
  • Experience building training programs and using adult learning methods.
