About You

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • A high school diploma (GED)
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, including limited night-time construction, and overnight travel as needed
  • Knowledge of construction techniques, design principles, and TDOT specifications and documents
  • Familiarity with standard operations, policies, and procedures common within the A/E industry, with a strong ability to learn on the job through observation and asking questions
  • Good interpersonal skills, ability to work independently, and strong communication skills (verbal and written), including solid command of English composition and grammar
  • Physical capability to frequently sit, use hands to operate tools or equipment, talk, see, hear, reach with hands and arms, walk, stand, and stoop; frequently lift or move up to 25 lbs., occasionally more—reasonable accommodations available

About the Role

As an ITS Inspector, you will:

  • Perform Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) inspections for compliance with Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) standards and manuals
  • Oversee and evaluate the condition of TDOT ITS assets, including CCTV, DMS, RWIS, WIM, and related equipment
  • Review fiber test results and contractor-submitted fiber documentation to verify performance against specifications
  • Inspect and monitor assigned field work activities on construction projects to ensure conformance with plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Coordinate work and inspections with contractors’ representatives, clients, and other stakeholders
  • Advise contractors on non-conforming work or other contract violations, working with them to identify and implement corrective actions
  • Verify that highway work zones and traffic control setups comply with contract requirements
  • Prepare and review daily inspection reports and document project diaries, material records, and test reports accurately
  • Assist in contractor evaluations and perform other duties as assigned
  • Use, or learn to use, tools and equipment such as air meters, slump cones, transit levels, and tape measures
  • Utilize computers for keying information and reporting as applicable
