Job description

Director Of Operations

A nationally recognized consulting firm specializing in building systems, restoration, repair, forensic investigations, and building enclosure solutions is seeking an experienced Director of Operations to lead a growing business unit. This leadership role is ideal for a seasoned engineering, architecture, or construction professional who combines strong technical expertise with operational leadership, business development, and team management experience. The successful candidate will drive business performance, mentor high-performing teams, strengthen client relationships, and help shape the strategic direction of the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary teams of engineering and consulting professionals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular performance discussions, coaching sessions, and professional development planning.
  • Support recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and retention initiatives.
  • Promote best practices, technical excellence, and exceptional client service throughout the organization.
  • Oversee project execution across a portfolio of restoration, repair, forensic, and building enclosure consulting projects.
  • Manage staffing, workload planning, resource allocation, and utilization goals.
  • Review project deliverables for technical quality, consistency, and compliance.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, profitability, and client satisfaction.
  • Partner with internal teams to support proposals, project planning, invoicing, and collections activities.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and serve as a senior-level resource on complex projects.
  • Develop and execute growth strategies for the business unit.
  • Monitor market trends, industry developments, and client needs to identify new opportunities.
  • Participate in annual planning, forecasting, budgeting, and revenue projections.
  • Track operational performance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support business development efforts through client engagement, networking, and industry involvement.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in engineering, architecture, restoration consulting, forensic investigations, building enclosure consulting, construction management, or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience with responsibility for team management, business operations, financial performance, and strategic growth.
  • Strong understanding of building systems, structural behavior, restoration and repair methodologies, and construction processes.
  • Demonstrated success managing client relationships and leading consulting projects.
  • Strong financial, operational, and project management acumen.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, drawings, and specifications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA/AIA) license.
  • Experience in restoration and repair engineering.
  • Experience in forensic engineering investigations.
  • Experience with building enclosure, faade, roofing, waterproofing, or related consulting services.
  • Proven business development and client relationship management experience.
What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is a client-facing leader who enjoys building relationships, mentoring teams, solving complex building-related challenges, and driving business growth. This is not a purely technical or desk-based role; success requires strong communication skills, leadership capabilities, and a passion for consulting and client service.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive base salary
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Generous paid time off
  • Flexible spending and health savings account options
  • Paid parental leave
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Professional development and continuing education support
  • Collaborative and growth-oriented company culture
