Position Summary:

Reportingto the Manager, Indigenous Initiatives, the Indigenous Liaison and RecruitmentSpecialist ("Liaison") is responsible for the delivery of Indigenous studentrecruitment for George Brown Polytechnic including, but not limited to, allfull and part-time postsecondary programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implements Indigenous focused recruitment strategies designed to: Showcase George Brown's 160+ full-time degree, diploma, certificate and apprenticeship programs.
  • Support informed post-secondary decision making for Indigenous learners and their families.
  • Strengthen pathways from recruitment to application, conversion and early transition Builds and maintains respectful, reciprocal relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Indigenous education partners, guided by principles of relational accountability and Indigenous protocols.
  • Connect with prospective students in a variety of methods and represents the Polytechnic using culturally responsive approaches consistent with Indigenous protocols and GBP commitments to reconciliation, equity and belonging.
  • Organize a schedule; make travel and accommodation arrangements; prepares and transports marketing collateral/give-aways/signage; sets up and tears down displays, while using GBP's resources to best advantage.
  • Represent the Polytechnic at province-wide events: Ontario College Information Program (CIP), Ontario Polytechnic Dialogues, and degree panels.
  • Build relationships with Indigenous communities, school boards community org respectful of Indigenous governance and protocols.
  • Identify and communicate systemic barriers encountered through community engagement, consultations, and recruitment activities.
  • Manage school relationships, by fostering relationships with feeder high schools across the province, with particular focus on Toronto and surrounding GTA school boards and their Indigenous Education departments.
  • Create opportunities to work with guidance counsellors and teachers, through periodic meetings, to understand programs offered at the high schools and how they relate to GBP programs and growth areas.
  • Initiate and/or responds to requests for school visits; secures appointments and organizes visits to best use own time and GBP's resources.
  • Participate in school visits, parent/information nights, Ontario Polytechnic Information Fair, as well as other education and career fairs.
  • Work with other provincial Polytechnic liaisons to plan and execute annual province-wide events: Ontario Polytechnic Information Program (CIP); Ontario Polytechnic Fair (OCF); Ontario Polytechnic Dialogues; Degree Panels; the Pre-Season Liaison Conference and Annual General meetings and events related to recruitment initiatives, such as Pow Wows.
  • Contributes Indigenous specific expertise to ongoing review of printed material and web content related to Indigenous recruitment activities to ensure accurate representation and cultural responsiveness.
  • Runs reports and analyzes Indigenous recruitment and enrolment data from OCAS to assess effectiveness of recruitment strategies and identify opportunities for improvement.
