Overview
Join our team as a 3D Printer/CAD Technician and become a vital part of advancing manufacturing and prototyping capabilities! The 3D Printing Technician will be responsible for setting up and operating our filament and resin style 3D printers to produce toy parts for vintage pressed steel trucks and other toys. The Technician will create part files, either from 3D scans or from scratch using existing parts, and will maintain and operate our 3D printing machines. They will monitor inventory levels of raw materials and finished products to keep up with customer demand. This role will also interact with customers for feedback and future part needs.
Duties
- Model Creation: Create 3D models using CAD software and 3D scanners
- File Preparation: Convert 3D models into printable files using slicing software, adjusting scale, infill, and orientation to optimize material use and print time.
- Machine Operation: Prepare and calibrate 3D printers (FDM and SLA), load materials, and monitor ongoing builds for stability and defects.
- Post-Processing: Clean, wash, sand, cure, or chemically dissolve supports from finished parts to meet strict quality and cosmetic standards.
- Raw Material Management: Manage inventory of raw materials to ensure finished product availability
- Finished Product Management: Manage inventory of finished products to ensure timely delivery to our customers
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine machine maintenance, identify mechanical issues, and diagnose root causes of print failures.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect printed components using measurement tools and document production logs
- Cleanliness: Maintain cleanliness of machines and work area
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required; degrees in engineering, industrial design, or manufacturing are highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with CAD software (Autodesk Fusion) and 3D printing slicers (Cura, PrusaSlicer, and Chitubox).
- Mechanical Aptitude: Strong problem-solving abilities and hand-eye coordination for working with delicate or intricate components. Ability to understand form, fit and function of original parts.
- Safety: Knowledge of material safety, ventilation protocols, and handling post-processing chemicals like isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and liquid resins.
- Physical Requirement: As a small family business, we occupy a multi-level building that requires many trips throughout the day up and down stairs to enter and to access work areas, often while carrying boxes or materials. We do not have an elevator or ramp due to the physical layout of the building and inability to add on to the building. This role specifically requires the ability to lift 30 pound boxes up and down stairs throughout the day.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of CAD software for designing and preparing models for printing
- Experience with various types of 3D printing technologies including FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling), SLA (Stereolithography)
- Proficiency in using precision measurement tools such as micrometers for quality assurance
- Excellent problem-solving skills for troubleshooting hardware or software issues quickly and efficiently
Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
