Job Title: Host

Department: Food & Beverage

Reports To: Director of F&B

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY:

A Host presents a positive first impression of the establishment's friendliness, excellent service, and high standards. The Host greets guests upon arrival, informs guests of their wait time, monitors a waiting list, enters guest names into the computer system, shows guests to their table, and bids guests farewell as they leave. The Host must be able to carry on natural conversation with guests without sounding scripted or intrusive.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet incoming and departing guests warmly with a genuine smile and eye contact; escort them to assigned dining area; present menus; announce waiter's name.
  • Use visual cues to seat guests in either the bar or dining area depending on their preference.
  • Answer incoming calls to the restaurant and provide appropriate service.
  • Manage bookings, either in person, over the phone, or online.
  • Providing personalized service and assistance for large parties of guests and VIPs.
  • Manage the flow of guests into the Dining and Bar areas and provide accurate wait times to incoming guests if appropriate.
  • Observant to guests' needs throughout the dining experience to ensure they receive high-quality service (i.e., notice a drink refill is needed while seating another guest and ensuring the drink is refilled before getting back to the door).
  • Protect establishments and patrons by adhering to sanitation, safety, and alcohol control policies.
  • Issue dining charges by verifying orders; calculating taxes; and totaling bill for to-go orders.
  • Receive payments by validating credit charges; approving checks; accepting currency; and calculating and issuing change for ToGo orders.
  • Learn the food and beverage menu.
  • Reconcile cash drawer by proving cash transactions; and listing checks and credit card charges for to-go orders.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Host, Customer Services, or other entry-level role in a restaurant.
  • Flexibility to work in shifts, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Understanding of hygiene and food safety rules.
  • Physical ability to stand for long hours.
  • Friendly, responsible, and punctual.
  • Customer Services Oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Attention to detail, cleanliness, and safety.

EDUCATION:

  • High School degree, GED or Equivalent.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish (preferred).

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with guests, associates, and external partners.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.
