Licensing & Certifications

• Journeyman or Master Electrician license (state-specific)
• NFPA 70E certification (electrical safety in the workplace)
• UL 508A certification (industrial control panel wiring) — this is especially important for robotics
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 (general industry)

Technical Skills & Experience

• Industrial control panel wiring and assembly
• PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) experience — Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc, etc.
• Reading and interpreting electrical schematics and ladder diagrams
• Low-voltage wiring (24VDC, 120VAC) alongside high-voltage (480V 3-phase)
• Experience with servo drives, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), and motor controls
• Cable management, wire labeling, and termination to spec
• Familiarity with robotics brands (FANUC, KUKA, ABB, Universal Robots) is a strong plus

Code & Compliance Knowledge

• NEC (National Electrical Code) — Articles 409 and 670 specifically cover industrial machinery and panels
• NFPA 79 (Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery) — critical for robotics applications
• CE marking requirements if equipment is exported to Europe

Soft Skills / Work Habits

• Detail-oriented — panel wiring requires precision and clean workmanship
• Ability to work from engineering drawings with minimal supervision
• Experience in a manufacturing or automation environment
• Comfortable collaborating with controls engineers and robotics integrators

Nice to Have

• Experience with safety circuits — e-stops, light curtains, safety relays (Pilz, Sick, Banner)
• Familiarity with conduit runs in industrial settings
• Prior work with a systems integrator or OEM
