Job description

GK & Associates is seeking experienced Public Works Construction Inspectors and Inspection Technicians to support permitted public infrastructure and land development projects. Assignments will primarily involve field inspection and construction oversight, with some office-based documentation and administrative responsibilities.

We are seeking dependable, detail-oriented professionals with experience in horizontal public works construction, including roadway, sewer, storm drain, water, utility, and related infrastructure projects.


CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR – RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform construction inspection and oversight to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, permit requirements, and applicable construction standards.
  • Monitor construction activities for compliance with safety requirements and approved traffic-control plans.
  • Inspect roadway, sewer, storm drain, utility, and other public infrastructure improvements.
  • Verify proper maintenance and restoration of the public right-of-way.
  • Identify deficient or non-conforming work and communicate required corrections.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports, field notes, photographs, and other required documentation.
  • Review plans, specifications, special provisions, and other construction documents.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and assist with permit administration.
  • Respond professionally to construction-related inquiries and complaints.
  • Coordinate with contractors, agency personnel, other consultants, utility companies, and the public.
  • Identify potential construction issues and assist in developing effective solutions.
  • Work independently with limited supervision while maintaining effective communication with the project team.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR

Construction Inspector I: Minimum 2 years of construction inspection experience on primarily Land Development projects for a City of County.

Construction Inspector II: Minimum 5 years of construction inspection experience on horizontal / Land Development projects for a City or County.

Candidates should have:

  • Working knowledge and practical experience applying the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (Greenbook) and Standard Plans for Public Works Construction.
  • Knowledge of Cal/OSHA Construction Safety Orders.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, special provisions, and construction documents.
  • Knowledge of temporary traffic control requirements and the ability to monitor traffic control in accordance with approved traffic-control plans and the California MUTCD, Chapter 6.
  • Ability to recognize construction deficiencies and recommend practical solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain accurate records.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to establish positive working relationships with contractors, agency personnel, and the public.


INSPECTION TECHNICIAN / TECHNICAL SUPPORT – RESPONSIBILITIES

GK & Associates is also seeking Inspection Technicians / Technical Support Staff at varying experience levels to assist construction inspectors with field and project-support activities.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Assist inspectors with field inspections and construction observations.
  • Observe construction activities and report field conditions to the assigned inspector.
  • Assist with daily inspection reports, photographs, field notes, and project documentation.
  • Follow up with contractors regarding paperwork, documentation, and outstanding items.
  • Assist with project and permit-related administrative tasks.
  • Communicate with contractors, agency personnel, and other project stakeholders.
  • Perform other field, documentation, and project-support duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – INSPECTION TECHNICIAN

  • Basic understanding of construction practices and terminology for entry-level positions.
  • Progressively stronger construction knowledge and experience for higher-level positions.
  • Level 3 candidates should possess knowledge approaching that of a Construction Inspector I.
  • Ability to understand basic construction plans and field activities.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and accurate documentation abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in both field and office environments.


IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate is a professional, dependable, and knowledgeable construction inspector or technician who understands public works construction and can confidently communicate with contractors, project stakeholders, and the public.

Experience with land development, roadway, sewer, storm drain, water, utility, grading, or other horizontal infrastructure projects is highly desirable.

Multiple positions and experience levels may be considered based on qualifications and project needs.
