Job Summary:

Performs basic patient care under the supervision of the emergency room physician or registered nurse. The Emergency Clinical Assistant is adjunct personnel to the nursing staff and maintains the patient care and unit environment consistent with our policies, procedures, and practices. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area. Promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.

Job Duties:

  • Triages patient care by identifying, observing and documenting the physical needs of the patient and families.
  • Reports changes in patient condition to Registered Nurse
  • Assists patient care staff by performing the following procedures: Phlebotomy, wound care and splinting, EKG's, care and removal of indwelling foley catheters, insertion and care of intravenous catheters
  • Provides patient care that may relate to rehabilitation to carry out multidisciplinary care plan for each patient.
  • Provides unit desk clerk functions when needed.
  • Obtains and maintains the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, according to physician order.
  • Uses two patient identifiers with proper labeling.
  • Blood glucose monitoring.
  • Assist with transporting patients into and out of the department to other areas of the hospital for tests.
  • Under supervision of physician or nurse, may transport patients between the Emergency Department and monitored units on medication.
  • Will transport medications to and from pharmacy and within the unit along with transporting blood products to and from Blood Bank.
  • Provides safety and suicide monitoring.
  • Assists patients with daily activities including undressing and dressing as well as lifting and positioning them to complete certain procedures.
  • Staff have access to non-controlled medications storage and supply areas and can transport non-controlled medications as necessary to meet the needs of the clinic and unit.
  • Coordinate relations between care providers, patients, and visitors.
  • Promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.
  • May access approved medications by physician order and for administration by the physician.
  • May administer approved medications to a patient during a resuscitation with the physician present

Position Details:

  • Active Pennsylvania Paramedic certification required.
  • Full Time, Evening/Overnights (36 Hours/weekly)
  • 3 - 12 hour shifts 7pm - 7:30am
  • Every other weekend and holiday rotation

Legal authority for the technicians to administer medications and perform other medical services falls under the Medical Practice Act and not the Emergency Medical Services Act.The Medical Practice Act (63 P.S. 422.17) states that the physician shall be responsible for medical services delegated to a technician.

Graduate from Specialty Training Program- (Required)

Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification - American Heart Association (AHA), Certified Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic - Default Issuing Body, Certified Paramedic - Default Issuing Body
