Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and dependable Registered Nurse (RN) or BSN-prepared nurse to join our team in a fast-paced outpatient procedure setting. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently while also collaborating closely with another nurse to provide safe, efficient, and compassionate care throughout the patient’s entire procedure experience.

Our center specializes in colonoscopy, upper endoscopy (EGD), and flexible sigmoidoscopy procedures. We have one provider performing procedures each day, working between two procedure rooms, with an average of 20–25 patients per procedure day.

Schedule

• Procedure Days: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
• Start Time: 5:45 AM - 6:15 AM
• Typical End Time: Approximately 2:30 PM–3:30 PM, depending on the day’s schedule
• Rotating Non-Procedure Day: You and the other nurse will alternate coverage on non-procedure days, with one nurse coming in as needed to prepare and organize procedure packets and ensure everything is ready for upcoming procedure days.
• This position works alongside another nurse, with both nurses sharing responsibilities and rotating roles as needed throughout the day.

Key Responsibilities

The nursing team will work together to ensure patients receive excellent care before, during, and after their procedures.

Pre-Operative Nursing Responsibilities

The pre-op nurse will:

• Greet and bring patients back to the pre-operative area.
• Verify patient identification, medical information, and required documentation.
• Review and confirm relevant medical history and procedure information.
• Start IV access and administer IV fluids as ordered.
• Assist patients with preparing for their procedure, including changing into appropriate attire.
• Answer patient questions and provide reassurance regarding the upcoming procedure.
• Ensure all required labs, medical clearances, and other necessary documentation have been received prior to the procedure.
• Communicate any concerns or pertinent patient information to the provider and clinical team.

Recovery Room Nursing Responsibilities

The recovery nurse will:

• Monitor patients following their procedure and assess their recovery.
• Monitor vital signs and overall patient condition.
• Provide appropriate post-procedure care and communicate any concerns to the provider.
• Review discharge instructions with patients and ensure they understand their post-procedure care.
• Prepare patients for discharge and confirm that appropriate transportation arrangements are in place.
• Contact each patient’s designated driver when the patient is ready for pickup.
• Ensure procedure packets and necessary materials are prepared for upcoming procedure days.

Shared Nursing Responsibilities

Both nurses will work collaboratively and share responsibilities throughout the day, including:

• Rotating between pre-op and recovery responsibilities as needed.
• Communicating effectively with the provider and other members of the clinical team.
• Completing end-of-day follow-up calls to patients to assess how they are feeling following their procedure and address any questions or concerns.
• Preparing procedure packets for upcoming procedure days.
• Reviewing schedules and ensuring all required labs, medical records, and clearances are received prior to the patient’s procedure.
• Maintaining accurate and complete patient documentation.
• Helping maintain an organized, efficient, and patient-focused clinical environment.
• Assisting one another as needed to keep the day running smoothly and ensure patient safety.

Qualifications Required:

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license or BSN
• Current BLS certification
• Current ACLS certification
• Strong clinical assessment and communication skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organization
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced outpatient environment
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a two-nurse team
• Compassionate and professional bedside manner
• Ability to prioritize patient safety and provide high-quality patient care
