Job description

UI/UX CONSULTANT
Freeform builds AI-native manufacturing systems that unify software, hardware, and physics to produce industrial-scale parts at the speed of human ideation. By treating manufacturing as a single integrated system, we unlock a new era of innovation where complex hardware is designed, built, and scaled without limits.
We are seeking a skilled UI/UX Consultant to design and develop an intuitive user interface for Freeform's homegrown ERP and manufacturing execution system. The ideal candidate will have experience creating user-friendly, efficient interfaces that enhance system usability and enable operators to work with clarity and speed. This project involves designing mockups of key screens, building a foundational UI component library, and developing persona-specific user flows centered around production, order fulfillment, and invoicing. You will partner closely with our software engineering team and internal stakeholders to shape the visual and interaction layer that makes our enterprise platform truly useful to the people who depend on it every day.
This person needs to be local to the Greater Los Angeles area for ad hoc in-person meetings and stakeholder feedback sessions. Much of the work can be done from home otherwise.
Responsibilities:
  • Partner with software engineers and internal stakeholders to translate complex ERP and manufacturing workflows into clear, usable interfaces
  • Design and deliver high-fidelity mockups and wireframes for key screens across production, order fulfillment, and invoicing workflows
  • Build and document a foundational UI component library to ensure consistency across the application
  • Develop persona-specific user flows tailored to the needs of operators, production managers, and finance users
  • Conduct user research and gather requirements by working cross-functionally with engineering and operations teams
  • Iterate on designs based on stakeholder feedback and usability testing, with a pragmatic focus on functionality and clarity over aesthetics alone
  • Produce design assets and specifications in a format that integrates cleanly with React or Next.js frontend development

Basic Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of professional UI/UX design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating work on complex, data-heavy enterprise or operations software
  • Proficiency in a modern design tool such as Figma for creating wireframes, prototypes, and component libraries
  • Experience designing user flows for multiple distinct user personas with different goals and technical backgrounds
  • Strong ability to gather and synthesize requirements from non-design stakeholders and translate them into actionable design specifications
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with engineers, delivering handoff-ready assets and maintaining open communication throughout implementation

Nice to Have:
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, MES platforms, or manufacturing and supply chain software
  • Experience designing for React or Next.js-based frontends, with an understanding of component-driven design systems
  • Background in UX research methodologies including user interviews, task analysis, and usability testing
  • Prior experience working at a startup or in a fast-paced environment where requirements evolve quickly and autonomy is expected
  • Exposure to industrial, hardware, or deep tech environments where users are operators, engineers, or technicians rather than general consumers

Location:
  • Based in Hawthorne, our vertically integrated facility brings technology development, R&D, and production together under one roof. We operate at the center of LA's deep tech ecosystem, surrounded by some of the most ambitious hardware innovation happening anywhere in the country.
  • This is a contract/freelance engagement. While some flexibility may be accommodated, preference is given to candidates who can collaborate onsite at our Hawthorne facility.
