Job description

Office Assistant

The Family and Children's Division of the Forsyth County Department of Social Services is seeking a highly motivated and dependable Office Assistant to provide essential administrative and operational support to Division staff. This is an in-person position that serves as a key point of contact for clients, community partners, and internal staff, requiring professionalism, strong customer service skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

The Office Assistant position within the Child Welfare Division provides critical administrative and operational support necessary for the effective delivery of mandated child protective services.

This position includes routine retrieval of files for scanning and electronic filing, which requires the ability to push, pull, stoop, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds. The role also involves retrieving and stocking office supplies, including copier paper, on a regular basis. Additionally, this position requires prolonged periods of sitting while performing computer based tasks, answering phones, and completing administrative duties.

Graduation from high school or GED and at least one year of office/clerical experience. A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for part of the experience requirement.

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Greeting and directing visitors,
  • Answering and routing incoming calls, gathering information to assess customer needs,
  • Retrieving and managing physical and electronic files,
  • Processing incoming and outgoing mail,
  • Navigating electronic filing systems, responding to inquiries,
  • Collecting buccal samples as required, and performing other duties as assigned.
  • The ideal candidate will possess strong written and verbal communication skills while maintaining professionalism and sensitivity.
  • Excellent organizational and computer skills, along with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy, are necessary for success in this role.
