Position Scope

The Human Resources Generalist provides hands-on HR support to employees and leaders at SEMCO's Petit Jean and Morrilton manufacturing facilities. This position supports the day-to-day delivery of human resources programs and services, including talent acquisition, onboarding, employee relations, payroll support, benefits administration, leave management, training, compliance, performance management, and the consistent application of company policies and procedures.

The HR Generalist serves as an accessible and trusted resource for employees and plant leadership, helping resolve workplace issues, support business needs, and promote a positive, productive, and compliant work environment. This position requires strong judgment, organization, confidentiality, and the ability to work independently while partnering effectively with the broader Human Resources team and plant leadership.

Major Responsibilities & Tasks

Employee Relations & HR Support

• Serve as a primary HR resource for employees and supervisors at the Petit Jean and Morrilton plants, providing guidance on workplace policies, procedures, employee concerns, and general HR matters.
• Respond to employment-related inquiries from employees, supervisors, applicants, and other stakeholders, escalating complex or sensitive matters to the Director of Human Resources as appropriate.
• Support employee relations matters, including coaching, corrective action, disciplinary meetings, investigations, conflict resolution, and terminations.
• Record and maintain comprehensive documentation related to employee incidents, performance concerns, and corrective training.
• Promote consistent and fair application of company policies, practices, and employment standards.
• Build effective working relationships with employees and leaders to support employee engagement, retention, and a positive workplace culture.

Recruiting & Onboarding

• Partner with plant leaders to understand staffing needs, job requirements, and the skills and competencies required for open positions.
• Support the full recruiting process, including job postings, candidate sourcing, applicant screening, interviewing, selection, and pre-employment activities.
• Coordinate and conduct new-hire onboarding and orientation to ensure employees receive a professional and effective introduction to SEMCO.
• Ensure new-hire documentation, employment eligibility requirements, system entries, and other onboarding activities are completed accurately and timely.
• Support efforts to improve recruiting effectiveness, employee retention, and the overall candidate and new-hire experience.

Payroll & Benefits Support

• Support the accurate and timely processing of plant payroll by reviewing employee information, timekeeping records, payroll changes, and other required data.
• Assist employees with routine payroll questions and coordinate resolution of payroll discrepancies as needed.
• Support employee benefits administration, including new-hire enrollments, qualifying life events, employee questions, and coordination with the Payroll & Benefits Manager.
• Assist employees with understanding available benefit programs and direct complex benefit questions to the appropriate internal or external resource.
• Support leave administration and ensure appropriate documentation and communication are maintained.

Performance, Talent & Training

• Support the administration of performance management processes and provide guidance to managers and employees regarding performance expectations and documentation.
• Assist with talent management, employee development, recognition, morale, and retention initiatives.
• Coordinate, track, and document required employee training, continuing education, certifications, and work-related assessments.
• Partner with plant leadership to identify workforce development and training needs.
• Support employee engagement activities and other initiatives designed to strengthen the employee experience and workplace culture.

Compliance & HR Administration

• Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and support the consistent application of company policies and procedures.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential employee files, records, and HR documentation.
• Assist with HR audits, reporting, data requests, and other compliance-related activities.
• Maintain accurate information within HR systems and ensure employee data is updated timely.
• Protect confidential and sensitive employee and company information with the highest degree of discretion and professionalism.
• Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, employee communications, and service delivery.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

• Employees and leaders across SEMCO's manufacturing operations and other areas of the company.
• Human Resources team members.
• Prospective employees and job applicants.
• Payroll, benefits, and insurance providers.
• Staffing agencies and recruiting partners.
• State employment agencies and other governmental entities, as appropriate.

Position Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Two (2) or more years of human resources experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
• Previous payroll or timekeeping experience preferred.
• Experience supporting recruiting, employee relations, benefits, leave administration, training, and HR compliance preferred.
• Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
• SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar professional certification is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to move throughout office and manufacturing environments as needed to support employees and business operations.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
